URGENT: Memory problem when creating a panelised surface

Hi all,

I am pretty new to Rhino and Grasshopper but I have hit a pretty big problem.

For the past few weeks I have been trying to generate a parametric atrium of tubular framed glazing. I have the form of the model but when I try to add the piping to it, I get the message saying Windows has ran out of memory.

I am using Windows 7 and have tried going into the BCD as recommended here: http://wiki.mcneel.com/rhino/memoryincrease but I was not able to run this command.

I have then tried to increase my virtual memory within Windows, even up to 30GB with no luck.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing something really wrong here but I really need to get this modelled ASAP for a portfolio submission.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi James,

You were nearly there... I've just split the objects you wanted to pipe into 2 lists, one of polylines, the other of lines, and now it seems to work ok. Still pretty slow though.

Attached your definition and a version of the baked geometry just in case you have any more problems. - Not sure if all the components i added were needed, probably not.

I have tried the file you sent me but when I open the file it comes up with the exact same error message. I do not understand what it going so wrong?

I tried to open the baked file also but when I did, I could not open it because I am running an older version of Rhino (4.0 SR4).

If this is not going to open on my computer, would you be able to export the model as a .3ds file for me as I need to use it further in SketchUp.

What sort of system are you running James?

Yeah, i think i probably saved that as a Rhino 5 version, apologies, i should have mentioned that...

attached a 3DS for you instead.

If you're running 4.0 this file might just be too big for rhino to handle without running out of memory. So things you could do to help reduce memory usage would be to work in one viewport at a time in wireframe mode. Secondly, reduce the absolute tolerance you're working to. If that still doesn't help, then perhaps try to simplify the geometry that you've built, but this will mean re-doing some of your GH work and i guess you wouldn't want to do that.

If you're able, use v5.0, its faster than 4.0 even as a 32 bit version.
