Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there. Fairly new to the world of 3D software; can anybody advise if Grasshopper is completely free for commercial use, and how I would get the version that is compatible with Rhino 4 SR5B on WinXP SP2 64bit? (Really don't want to mess up a smooth Rhino PC.) Any help really appreciated, thanks.

Simon.

Grasshopper is free for all licensed copies of Rhino whether commercial or student. However, there were some big changes to the core that require later versions of the Rhino Service Releases either SR8 or SR9 would do. You can get SR9 from the McNeel download website. Service releases are meant to be improvements so if you are worried about messing your system up steer clear of WIP versions but you can feel safe with actual SRs.

With a licensed copy of Rhino v4 you are able to download a Beta version of Rhino v5 which is soon (??) to be released so it should be relatively bug free. I mention this because as soon as it is released Grasshopper will no longer be compatible with v4.

Thank you very much for your quick response, exactly what I needed to know.

To elaborate, once Rhino5 goes out the door any new Grasshopper releases will no longer work on Rhino4, but old ones will keep working. Grasshopper has no expiration mechanism.
