Needed an EC2 instance for this one! Used Weaverbird dual mesh.

Hey Daniel,

Thanks for the reply.  Took me a while but I finally found some time to try it out.  Pretty straight forward.  One thing I noticed though was that though the resources were available, in terms of RAM and processor power, Rhino and Grasshopper never really seemed to take advantage of nearly any of what was available.  I only managed to improve calculation times by two or three on the most powerful cluster combination.  Do you know if this is a known constraint or are there ways to get Rhino/ Grasshopper to take full advantage of the power of the clusters?  I was trying out some high resolution topological optimisation with Millipede.

Hi Adam,

The basic EC2 usage is pretty straightforward (there are any number of tutorials online). They all result in a VPS that you can use Remote Desktop to control. Then, you can install whatever software you like, and go from there. The advantage is that the top end EC2 instances have something like 32GB of RAM and 16 fast cores (which I guess GH doesn't really use).

More sophisticated behaviour would involve some kind of parallelization that spawns EC2 instances as needed. You would need to do some coding for this, though.

Btw., Ortoo is a first step in this direction...you can send meshes around to connected to peers and do some kind of analysis on them (one analysis step per peer).

Hi Daniel,

Is it difficult to use EC2 instances with Grasshopper?  I am trying to find some information on the best way to set it up to help speed up processing time for simulations with plugins like Millipede, Weaverbird, etc.  Can you point me to any articles or information that may aid in my search?

Nice.
Daniel, what exactly does this mesh represent? A covering for?

wow! looks very interesting.

is it possible to see more of this project? so more than the link is able to show? (:
