We use AI (artificial insemination). Using C02 we put Queen into narcosis then collect gem material from Drones and allow queen to be transferred from virgin princess into Qeenbee.  Mr Loc invented his own tool - like David his grasshopper :) It is like galapagos in grasshopper where we have some control over gens and therefore we can select which bee we want to use for selection. We try to achieve bees to be healthy, gentle and productive.

Wonderful photos Michal! Did not know that kind of school exists.

What is the purpose of this "operation"?

My favorite work as you can see on images was marking new born Queens ...also we breed Queens so bees are very gentle and could work with minimum protection and enjoy bee company...

PLEASE REMEMBER bees are usually black-brown  and not yellow-black those are wasp...

Link to workflow - see some images of my work at apiary...

I am a beekeeper, unfortunately not professional any more... apart from University of Technology I studied at Secondary Beekeeping School. I was working for some time with one of the greatest Queen Breeder - Krzysztof Loc. His passion, creative thinking  and commitment to work are quite similar and appreciated like your David. I really appreciate it and enjoy spending my time in this insect - environment. I must admit that beekeeping and grasshopper become my obsession and inspiration...will try to learn best from both worlds.

Taz, I guess it's a technical term.
This is the way we do it.
Instead of that electric cutter, I am using a simple big knife.

Hey I'm far away from professional. Still learning the work around queen bee.
But agree - it's really a fun job!

Also is the depth of field effect from a lens or post-processed with PS?

Is "extracting" a technical term?

My granddad was a bee-keeper (though not professional). I helped out a few times extracting honey, lot's of fun.
