Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

A couple of shell studies showing the original shell's gaussian curvature and their planar remeshing.

The shells were obtained through ESO (evolutionary structural optimization).

The gaussian curvature was computed with Mirco Becker's component.

Zones with positive GC should be polygonize with hexagons and an occasional pentagon and/or heptagon; those with negative GC should polygonize with bowtie shaped polygons; and those with zero GC should polygonize with rectangles.

Hi Mirco; it's done with Variational Shape Aproximation (it's basically a k-means clustering algorithm) and a planar remeshing algorithm based on Constrained Planar Remeshing. It's still WIP, but for my masters thesis I've been told it's enough and therefore focus more on other parts of the project.

Sweet, how is the re-meshing being done?
