ur setup. Can you say what sensor you are using? Are you using an Arduino to write this ascii information to the serial port? If so, there may be some formatting code for the string that you'll need to do to get the Read component to function properly. I see that you were able to open the port and Start reading... so my first thought is that the data is formatted correctly....
All of the read components look for a specific character (in this case two characters) to indicate when it has reached the end of the line being read and should spit out the data. In this case, Firefly uses the Carriage Return (\r) and Line Feed (\n) to know when it has reached the end of the line. In arduino, these are automatically added to any line if you use the Serial.println("blah, blah, blah"); command. Notice, this is different from the Serial.print("nothing to see here"); command. This doesn't mean that you can't still use the regular print command... it's just you need to use the println command to indicate when you've reached the end of the line. Let's take a look at a simple example.

The first print statement prints a string to the serial port... and the next one adds the current sensor value... and THEN adds the carriage return and line feed to start a new line. The nice thing about using these together is that you can concatenate any type of data you want. If you were to upload this sketch, you should see a sentence being printed to the serial port that says "The value of the sensor is: 512". I made up the number, but you get the idea. Notice, I also had to include a delay function. You don't always need this (there are other ways to go about this) but the important thing to note is that the loop cycle on the Arduino can run really fast. I mean... really fast. So, you wont want to send so much data over to GH, because this could flood the string buffer in the Read component and cause it to crash (eventually). It's a good idea to add some small time interval just to slow it down a bit. I should say that I've optimized the refresh rate in the next release so it's significantly faster... so hopefully this wont be as big of a problem... but hopefully that helps some.
Now... Why are you writing data to a sensor? Sensors by default are considered inputs... so I'm quite confused as to why you would want to send data back (if you are... then you need some way to handle the string data being sent from GH... this is the whole reason we built the Firefly firmata... it sets up the two-way protocol so you don't have to deal with all of that mess... If you're going to read and write, you're better off just uploading the firmata and using the Uno Read and Write components). Also, I'm not very familiar with the Hyperterm or Advanced Serial Port Terminal... but I will say that could get COM conflicts if you're trying to open the port with different tools. Anyway, I hope some of this helps you get up and running.

I scaled that mesh just to fit Rhino grid, but it is not mandatory. What is useful, is to scale not uniformly the mesh (Scale NU). It could be done after cellular modifier applied or before or before and after. The 3 options are possible in the script. If you don’t need them just put 1 in scale sliders.
Ellipsoid mesh is the populated with points, I put 2 independents populations to randomize a bit further. For each vertices of the mesh the closest distance from the populated points is calculated.
Here is an illustration in color of this distance.
This distance is then used to calculate a bump. If domain for bump is beginning with negatives values to 0, it carves the mesh. Instead it bumps/inflates it.

Does anyone have experience with scripting interfaces for this software? I'm stuck already. I know nothing of java script to begin with. As you can see I managed to format the labels but the osc message I could not find a way, it stays untouched.

To answer your questions:1) Each grasshopper component (ghpython being one of those too) is using grasshopper's data matching algorithm. This algorithm takes care of complex issues which may arise from combining lists with single items, data trees with different number of items per branch and so on.I think there is a way of introducing a call to other processor's threads per each inputted surface, but this will be a very difficult job, as it will require writing a custom data matching algorithm. I do not think I am up to that task.Instead I tried to introduce the multithread only to the final part of the PVsurface component and one of its time consuming parts: calculation of sun angles, solar radiation and ac/dc power output.I attached the test file below, but sadly it didn't go well: the multithreaded version mostly runs at the same time as the regular version.I do not think I am qualified enough to answer why is that so, but I think that it may have something to do with the type of the function that the multithreading is applied to: the code is suppose to run few separate functions a couple of thousand times, and work with a couple of lists. From my experience, the multithreading works the best when a single list or two are supplied to a single function. I may be wrong on this.I am very sorry to say that I can not implement this feature.2) I am not familiar if open source PV modules database has been released.But one can always download the data for specific modules from producers websites. As I did not get the upper notice message, I closed down the whole Rhino so that I cut the waiting time. Then I tried running it without the groundTerrain_ input, and in some 15 minutes I got the following buildings:
I think I may understand what was causing the problem: when one takes large radii, it covers large areas, and with this area comes large number of information (keys and values). You can get hundreds of keys (or thousands). What can happen is that: these hundreds of keys, can exceed shapefile's capacity to story keys. So basically in case of radius 750 meters your "height" or "buildings:levels" keys somehow slipped beyond this allowable capacity. In case of 800 meters they were somehow allowed to enter (a bit bad term sorry) before the allowable capacity is reached. This depends on the number of keys named with letters which precede the "h" and "b".The best way to solve this issue is to know which data do you actually need, and use the "OSM Keys" component to generate the list of needed keys. In this way, only those keys that you need will be used, others will be disregarded.You do not even have to use the "OSM Keys" component if you know which specific keys you exactly need. Check the attached file below. I grouped the "OSM Keys" solution as "a" and a custom defined list of keys as "b".
2) The component running time might now be cut with picked "requiredKeys_" input I mentioned at the end the previous 1) part.
3) "OSM 3D" component's "randomHeightRange_" input is suppose to do exactly that: to randomly create 3d buildings (or 3d trees) when there are no valid "height" or "buildings:levels" tags.I have just changed one line the "OSM shapes" component code.I wonder if it would make any problem on your PC.Please let me know if LocationGrabber03_Gismo2.gh file works.…

requiredKeys_ input of the "OSM Shapes" component. This is not the source of your problem though, but still I mentioned it in case you solve your issue, and afterwards want to use the "OSM Shapes" component.
The current (Win32Exception): WindowsError is the very same error message that you reported back in February.For some reason, your Windows is not allowing the Gismo "OSM Shapes" component to delete C:\MapWinGIS_installation_folder\gdal-data\osmconf.ini file.
You previously solved it by allowing the full access control to it, so I am not sure why it is not working now.Windows 10 seems to be the most overprotected operating system among other Windows versions, at least judging by the questions people asked so far.
Maybe you can try to turn off all the services which prevent users from changing certain files, like UAC or maybe even your antivirus?
Try this:
1) Close your Grasshopper and Rhino.2) Restart your PC3) When it boots up again, in your Start menu's search box type: "UAC". Click on it, and a new User Account Control Settings window will open. Set the bar on the left to "Never notify".4) Completely turn off your Antivirus.5) Check once again if your access control to the C:\MapWinGIS_installation_folder\gdal-data\osmconf.ini file is still set to the values you previously reported in this post.6) Right-click on "Rhino 5" icon and then choose: "Run as administrator".7) When Rhino boots up, run Grasshopper, and open the newest create_3dbuildings_trees_streets.gh file from here.If none of this helps, maybe you have some other application which deals with access to files on your system? Malware removal application or similar? Try turning it off too.…

(I am using Intel Xeon 4 cores, 2.93GHz with 4GB RAM and running in Win7 in 64 bit but with Rhino 32 bit.)
(Roof geometry can be completely asymmetrical, so let’s assuming that we can’t array the resulting geometries!)

- Which level of CPU? Or constraint of CPU over clocking when necessary and capacity of RAM)
- How fine tuning my PC for best performance? (Parallel computing, c-flex…)
- is GPU a matter? (E.g. in Animation standard: Nvidia CUDA Quadro 4000+)
Or probably just a suggestion of workstation ;-)
