ll the centre point upwards in the Z direction then the only thing that can happen is that the 6 triangles fold in half along one of the lines that bisect the hexagon.
Otherwise the outer lines of the hexagon must change length!
If you had a big XY plane covered in equilateral triangles and pulled one point upwards in Z direction then the triangular mesh can fold along a row of edges but to create anything other than a linear fold the lengths of the edges would have to change I think.
You can form non-planar meshes from equilateral triangles but they have sharp kinks in them.
I think your image above are not actually equilateral triangles... there are small differences in the lengths of the sides due to the way you have glued them together. Probably a tolerance of +/-2mm which is enough to give you some curvature. There are also at least 2 edges that are not joined to anything.
Take a look at an icosohedron - a 20 sided shape made up of equilateral triangles. All the points of the icosohedron lie on a sphere. If you split all the triangles of an icosohedron into 4 (i.e. divide each side by 2 and join the dots) and then project these new points out onto a sphere you have a a basic geodesic dome which looks like it is panelled with equilateral triangles but they are actually not equilateral, like your triangles above.
There's been a few posts on this forum where people are trying to panel a surface with equilateral triangles but it's often impossible.
Hopefully someone on here might show you some mathematical proof!…
mething like an i7 with four cores would serve best. i am running 4x3.4 here. you should see 100% cpu utilization when solving.
2) model specifics: topology (= how many elements coming together in one joint), joint and support freedom, which both define the number of degrees of freedom of the model. the more DOF, the larger the stiffness-matrix to invert , the longer computation time. truss-bars are a LOT faster than beam elements.
3) loads and load cases: in general the more load cases, the longer the solving time. the more load vectors on single nodes (which it all comes down to), the longer too. but loads dont affect the computation time too much, especially since once the stiffness matrix has been inverted, most load cases can be applied to it i think.
eigenmodes take a LOT longer to compute than normal analysis, in certain karamba releases the automatic calculation of the first eigenmode (for debugging your geometry) was turned on inside the analysis module when something was wrong with the actual calculation to debug. this could turn out to be pretty annoying with big models so now it's turned off again.
with 'nonlinear', do you mean the large deformations iterative approximation component of karamba?
an average model with 10000 beams and three load cases takes ~400ms here, so take this times 20 for some non-linear iterations and you are there, roughly.

duino code generator works fine, but when exporting, it doesn't seem to work? Could some one please tell me what is FFcasts.h, and if that could be effecting my code? Or if there is anything wrong in general with the export.

Rhino 5 is also acceptable. Description An associative model is only as relevant as the information it seeks to manage. This workshop will engage the associative model by feeding it with real time and real world data captured through prefabricated sensor nodes known as the Ambient Sensor Kit (ASKit). The ASKit is an Open Hardware platform for personal data collection and sharing. The ASKit project is based on the premise that a personal understanding of the information around us is key to a sustainable and informed habitation of our environment. http://uask.it. Workshop participants will be working with Grasshopper, a generative, logic based design environment where participants will be able associate real world data to their models. Several other tools will be employed including Processing, Pachube, Google Earth, and gHowl (a set of custom components which extend the functionality of Grasshopper). This two day workshop will focus on a specific area in Berlin to understand, through data, the differences between the physical barriers and invisible forces which define certain urban functions. The participants will engage in: - environmental data collection - site surveying with open hardware/DIY electronics - data visualization and analysis - associative modeling with collected data Day 1: Demonstration of ASKit hardware platform for data collection and associative modeling. Data capture session in specific zones in Berlin. Data visualization and associative modeling in Grasshopper. Day 2: Focused Data Capture Session Directed projects applying associative modeling with collected data.…

Just my first thoughts. That breakdown in optimization is just an example. Maybe 'sections' is an old-school way of seeing things, I just wanted to share some thoughts on the kind of content I look forward to seeing. It can be pragmatic topics, but also theoretical, and allow folks to share their projects and research. Some categories are specific, others broad. I suppose I'm interested in community building with regards to computational design. I think SmartGeometry attempted to accomplish this at some point in the past, to some degree. However their focus appears to be in the workshops and challenges.
I recall the silly flame wars that the CG industry had 20 years ago (lame). I'd avoid that, even if it meant forbidding the mention of any specific software in certain areas or in the entire forum. Which would be tricky, but the endless flame wars and silly comparisons were such a waste of everyone's time in CG.
Without dwelling on this too much yet, I think that the software specific questions belong in software specific forums. If we already had a common language for computational design, you'd just need to add the right description as a meta-tag to any Dynamo or Grasshopper forum post, and you'd be able to find analogous solutions in either forum effortlessly, right?
The Dynamo and Grasshopper forums lack design-centric content. The emphasis is generally on the tools and workflow. Computational design is hybrid in essence, it involves both design and computer programming (be it visual or textual). We could really use a forum for knowledge exchange where the expectation is that both are discussed with equal status.
I disagree that such a forum ought to exclude professional programmers. It should include professional programmers whom have an interest in design, and also include professional designers whom have an interest in computer programming, and everyone in between, and enthusiasts, and artists whom are curious about algorithms as a creative medium, and academics, and students, and etc etc. As long as there is rich content and activity on design as well, not only the computational bit, then the crowd will be diverse and we'll all have more to learn from one another.…

The focus of the workshop is to integrate and correlate the synergistic effect associated with simultaneous presence of different digital design- and analysis tools in an ongoing design process. The main attention is set on easy to handle interface , which should be used at a early stage of conceptual design to respond to external and internal influences in a intelligent and sustainable way. Participants will use the software Grasshopper as a parametric modeling plug-in for Rhino. The usage of this graphical algorithm editor tightly integrated with Rhino's 3-D modeling tools open up the possibility to construct highly parametrical complex models. To generate this complexity we will use live linkages to several programs listed below: . Autodesk Ecotect Analysis via GECO . FEA software GSA via SSI In this 3 intense days, the participants should learn the workflow of the plug-ins with the help of examples and get an overview of the different software's, there possibilities for evaluating the performance of a design or the usage of additional tools to be not chained to a single system . (e.g. parametrical accentuation, parametrical formation, parametrical reaction) [.] Dettagli : Istruttori: Thomas Grabner & Ursula Frick from [uto]. lingua del corso: inglese (saranno disponibili tutor di supporto ma è richiesta una conoscenza di base della lingua unglese).
