surfaces resulting from 'SrfSplit' so they could be sorted to discard the largest one (in cases where a Voronoi curve crossed a surface seam, there are three resulting surfaces, not just two) and
The centroid for each Voronoi curve/surface required for scaling the holes.
So I created a cluster called 'pLen' which returns the perimeter length of a surface (the sum of the lengths of its edges) to be used instead of surface area for sorting (#1). And used another cluster I have called 'PtCloudCntr' that returns the mathematical center of a point cloud (#2). Both of these clusters are extremely fast and worked fine together as a replacement for 'Area'.
But in the process, I discovered and fixed a couple things:
In those cases where Voronoi intersection curves cross a seam in the "Primary Surface", I joined the two pieces together before creating the hole - eliminating the seam from the results!
Somehow the optional 'Bounding Box' used by 'Voronoi³' component got lost (oops) so it was cutting off the results bounded by the random points instead of the "Primary Surface". Fixed that and found later that in some cases (the 'Revolve Srf' in this code), it works much better to double the size of the 'Bounding Box'. Since there is no penalty for this, speed or otherwise, the larger box is used for all surfaces.
The results are MUCH BETTER than before. Surfaces don't lose their edges, holes aren't corrupted by seams and the code runs in roughly 2/3rds the previous times (30 seconds instead of 45 seconds for 438 holes as in prior code). For 100 holes, it takes only six to eight seconds to change the "Primary Surface" and get a new holed surface.
This 'Revolve Srf' is substantially smaller in scale than the other surfaces and due to its apparent complexity(?), it starts to degrade in quality with "large holes", i.e., less than 100 holes:

tion. Washington D.C. is humid and warm at night in September, so the peak load was occuring at 9pm. The outside air @ 3.6 w/sf I reference is mostly latent load. This seems like a critical consideration for HB studies in humid climates- if one is modeling an ideal-air system, its possible that unrealistic amounts of humidity are being introduced into zones. If studying passive strategies, the humidity load can dominate results, hiding the reported effectiveness of things like shades, SHGC, insulation, etc. Interested in your thoughts on this!
A couple follow up questions:
1. We'd like to disect the peak sensible cooling-load hour with our ideal air system. We've created a workaround by locating the peak sensible hour through the 'otherZonedata' output, running a second single-hour simulation for that hour, and using the energybalance component to look at the solar radiation, conduction, etc. components for that hour. Is there an easier way to extract the peak sensible cooling hour from an HB simulation and then disect the hour into its individual load components? I am skeptical about the results of a single hour simulation.
2. The 'zone ideal loads supply air sensible' output from 'otherZonedata' outputs really large numbers (days with cooling report 6-7 digit numbers whereas out actual load was only 5.4kW). Do you know what units these results are in? In our workaround method we're only using these numbers to locate the peak sensible day (they indicated morning mid-june which sounds right for an E facing room). That said, we'd like to understand the numbers so we can QC the output.
Thanks!

pavilion) and from that i want to fabricate it using some paper or card bored .
for modeling the pavilion i used a simple kangaroo based algorithm to generate the desired form using mesh 3d plane faces . there was no problem with this part and i was able to get the mesh from geometry out put . then i wanted to use that output mesh to panelize it and then adding tabs and the nesting and cutting to get the parts. but the problem was every tutorial i looked up were using surfaces to panelize and nest so this was the first problem to convert the mesh into a surface and then panelazing and nesting . i tried using the mesh2nurbs but it didn't work out for me . (because i needed a single surface not some poly surfaces) . (attachment | input mesh )
so i started from the beginning and tried using a surface as an input for kangaroo and thus getting a surface as an output so i did that and tried to create a surface by the Surface from points component . and the result was not good the surface was kinda messed up and the the reason was the points were not ordered well i guess . so this was another problem for me . (attachment | input surface)(picture below)
so basically i have a few main questions :
1. is there a tutorial or any topic or book or somthing that explains from 0 to 100 from design to fabrication (as an example a pavilion) ?
2. can i use the mesh to panelize and nest and then fabricate ? and are there any tips or tricks to it ?
3. is the starting from surface for me a good idea or not ?
i am extremely sorry for talking this much and i'm grateful for the time you spent on reading this .
best wishes ; Babak.

e openings with the simple calculation of room air and IES.
I am testing a shoebox of 15x5m, 3m height, 2 windows of 1sqm, only 1 person of internal gains, no heating, no cooling, basically nothing.
The tests were running fine with the "Wind pressure coefficient type" as Input on the AFN simulation control. But, as the number of ach that I was obtaining was tiny (approx. 1/6 of the ach of room air) I thought that the problem could be the Input and my wind pressure coefficient calculations. Therefore, I changed the WPCoefficient type to "Average surface calculation" and I deleted all the wind pressure elements.
As soon as I change this (and only this) the simulation crashes because of the error "DualSetPointWithDeadBand: Unanticipated combination of heating and cooling loads - report to EnergyPlus Development Team" And also, my heating set point changes from -100 degrees to 12
I've look for this in the bigladder manual for energy plus and looks like if I had set a thermostatic zone control on dual set point with dead band, what I haven't, because, to be honest, I didn't even know it existed.
I hope any of you can help me, because I've been trying hard, but I don't find which is the problem.
I have to say that all the AFN data is internalised (beside the run simulation) and will be a bit difficult to read. I'm sorry for this but, as they are about 20 user objects, I thought it was too much to upload.
Thanks a lot…
surface which are fully inside it(each cell's area should be 100% inside surface).
Idea how to do this:
Use Surface|Curve to cut the grid of cells to the surface --->
---> Area to get centroids of those cells --->
---> Dispatch using as pattern distances of cells' centroids from polyline to have in one of list those that are fully within the surface --->
---> Dispatch using as pattern distances of cells' centroids from curves (that defy holes) to have in one of list those that are fully within the surface
Problem:
Cannot use Area to extract centroids. Ironically, when I click on the Area button is shows me centroids of all of cells that are fully inside surface but button is red so I cannot progress.
I tried using Split Surface too (instead of Surface|Curve) but it crashed my PC, even after flattening input data.
I'm a newbie and looked for answer but did not manage to find topic that would relate to my problem. Maybe I formulate my questions in wrong way.

. From the Thermal Comfort Indices component, Comfort Index 11 (TCI-11):MRT = f(Ta, Tground, Rprim, e)
with:- Ta = DryBulbTemperature coming from ImportEPW component- Tground = f(Ta, N) where N comes from totalSkyCover input. Tground influences the long-wave radiation emitted by the ground in the MRT calculation.- Rprim defined as solar radiation absorbed by nude man = f(Kglob, hS1, ac)- ac is the clothingAlbedo in % (bodyCharacteristics input)- I can't find any definition in the code of Kglob and hS1. Could you tell me please what are those values referencered to? --> probably the globalHorizontalRadiation but how?- e = vapour pressure calculated from Ta and Relative Humidity input
Do you agree that in this case the MRT does not depend on these inputs: location, meanRadiantTemperature, dewPointTemperature and wind speed? It does not depend neither on the other bodyCharacteristics like bodyPosture, age, sex, met, activityDuration...?
MRT calculated by the TCI-11 method is the mean radiant temperature of a vector pointing vertically with a sky view factor of 100%?For ParisOrly epw,
2. From the SolarAdjustedTemperature component (that seems to be more used for the UTCI calculation examples on Hydra compared to TCI-11).
In contrast to the TCI-11, this component distinguishes diffuse and direct radiation and contextualizes the calculation thanks to _ContextShading input, right? It can also be applied to a mannequin thanks to the CumSkyMatrix and thus evaluate the dishomogeneity of radiation exposure. This component seems not to consider the influence of vapour pressure on the result --> is it then more precise to put the MRT output (from the TCI) as an input of meanRadTemperature for SolarAdjustedTemperature? The default groundReflectivity is set to 0.25 --> is GroundReflectivity taken into account in the Tground or MRT calculation in the TCI component? If yes, what is the hypothesised groundReflectivity? The default clothing albedo of 37% (TCI-11 bodyCharacteristics) corresponds to Clothing Absorptivity of 63%?
If the CumSkyMatrix input is not supplied, I get 9 results for the mannequin --> where are those points/results coming from?
If the CumSkyMatrix input is supplied,I suppose the calculation of the 482 results correspond to a calculation method similar to the radiation analysis component that is averaged over the analysis period. Right? But I don't understand why the mannequin is composed of 481 faces and meshFaceResult gives 482 results.
Finally, what is the link between the MESH results, the solarAdjustedMRT and the Effective Radiant field ? Is there a paper to have a detailed explanation of the method?
3. Here are some results for the ParisOrly energyplus weather data. You can find here attached the grasshopper definition. There is no shading in this simulation and the result coming from the ThermalComfort indices for MRT is very different compared to the solar adjusted MRT.Why such a big difference and which of the result should be plugged into the UTCI calculation component?

n fact) according a vast variety of "modes" PLUS the required clash detection (ALWAYS via trigonometry). In plain English: outline any collection of Breps and "apply" a truss that is topologically sound (planarization in case of quads etc is an added constrain). PLUS outline/solve what comes "next" after that truss (like the planar glazing "add-on" brackets of yours [ the ones that need redesign, he he], or some roofing/facade skin system [secondary supports, corrugated sheet metal, insulation, final cladding, dogs and cats])
2. Imaging doing this in real life (nothing to do with "abstract" formations of "lines" or "shapes" or whatever). This means primarily adopting a BIM umbrella: in plain English AECOSim, Revit or Allplan (I'm a Bentley man so I use AECOSim + Generative Components). This also means using "in-parallel" a top MCAD app for 1:1 details, FEA/FIM and the vast paraphernalia required for real-life studies destined for real-life projects (made with real-life money by real-life people). My choice: CATIA/Siemens NX.
3. What to send to Microstation (if not using Generative Components, that is) and/or CATIA? In what "state"? To do what exactly? For instance even if you could design this feature driven tensile membrane anchor custom node in Rhino (you can't) it could be 100% useless in CATIA:
4. Imaging masterminding ways to send them nested instance definitions of ... er ... a coordinate system (all what you need). In plain English: since is utterly pointless to send them nested blocks that can't been parametrically controlled (variations/modifications/PLM management/BOM/specs etc etc)... send them simply the "instructions" to place coordinate systems of components that ARE parametrically designed within Microstation and/or CATIA (classic feature driven design approach blah blah). So GH solves topology et all (working on data imported via, say, Excel sheets related with sizes of components etc etc) and sends to Microstation simply this (a myriad of "this" actually):
I do hope that the gist of the "method" (the ONLY way to invite GH to the party) is clear.

aching my skill set here, but bare with me.
I want to create an animated facade of squares which rotate depending on a sequence of grey-scale images. I've got pretty far thanks to many discussions here, but have hit a blank with exporting my animated model to 3ds max.
Here's my GH script - it's a botch of 3 or 4 various things incorporating centipede at the start and end to get the animation.
All good and it works! It produces animations which I can sequence for presentations too thanks to it's bmp export, which is sort of a side-product.
What I have a problem is that the OBJs it produces error wildly when imported to max. eg in rhino it looks like
But when I've imported them to max it looks like
and as it animates it just gets longer and smaller.
NOW I reckon it might be because my model in grasshopper is 100 separate geometries and it'd like it to be a single one - but I've not achieved that.
Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this? My end result I would like to look like this rendered still from max, but animated.
Thankyou all! This also uses Firefly, so you might need that installed to see how my file works.

w how. Thanks for that. Now I do have some questions.
1. I am using the area weight tool. I am first calculating the volume of the form. I then multiply that value by it's density. So for concrete I am using 2400 kg/m^3 x volume. I then divided that number by the area of the membrane that is supporting the mass. This gives me my area weight. It seems to be working well but I want to verify that this is the correct workflow. I also want to verify that gravity would be turned off since I am thinking it is already calculated within the weight component.
2. I am finding that the new triangular element tool works much better than trying to use EA/L as input for the springs from mesh. Even when I set the timestep, subiteration, and drag I still have issues with getting very stiff materials to work. On the new finite elements tool I wanted to verify that E was in pascals. I also wanted to ask if I use imperial units can psi be entered. Now from what I am seeing the materials are deforming more than expected and to get less deformation and stretch in the mesh area I am finding the E value needs to be increased more than the true material values. Often I am raising E by a multiple of 10 or 100.
I am going to describe my problem and I will gladly share the definition if you'd prefer looking it over but basically I have an inflated membrane at a certain pressure made of a particular material. I then have a certain volume of concrete on top of the inflated membrane. My goal is to review the displacements as the concrete is applied over the membrane and find the proper pressures to apply to keep it free from deformation. I am including a picture from a project that we used kangaroo on and attempted to deal with such issues. It was a class sponsored by Cloud9 architecture held at Art Center College of Design where I was one of the instructors. Hopefully this illustrates the problem. To summarize any example file that shows the best way to implement real material properties and unit based forces would be a helpful reference and would be greatly appreciated.
