iding the underlying surface into "pieces" [or points] ... the easy bit is to test a given point (say the "piece" centroid or any of the 4 points) for inclusion against the Brep Face and proceed accordingly (this is the fastest culling approach by a huge margin - lot's of others also available). This inclusion (or not) "marks" your pieces as candidates for the truss.
But ... the hard bit is that we are talking about truss structural ability/integrity here ... meaning that islands must been detected in order to sample potential "portions" of trusses in appropriate collections (DataTrees) related with these islands (and obviously interactively inform the designer that things go wrong [if they go wrong]).
Not a task for a novice nor for an expert without experience in coding. For instance see a classic graph island detection ... that is wrong for trusses (diagonal node to node "piece to piece" connections are valid in island graph theory ... and rather 100% invalid for trusses).

both my plotter/cutter and wide format printer. I had been running the plotter from my main work laptop - a Win10 machine via the plotters USB port. As it turns out you can't get Win XP drivers for this USB connection so I needed another solution.
I tried to use the plotters DB25 serial port connection using an old DB9 to DB25 modem cable I had in my collection = no luck the plotter wouldn't talk. A bit more research and it turns out these plotters need a 'null modem' cross over cable to operate. I found a pic of the correct wiring online and made up my own with some cable and connectors from the local electronics hobby shop.
With this hooked up and using Hyperterminal I was able to fire some codes to the plotter directly and get a response back - winning!
At this point I got my original code working with the 'net use' redirect from LPT1 to COM1.
HOWEVER - being that the plotter was now on a COM port there are a few more interesting things you can do with it - one is being able to read the paper size/cut area from the printer.
So what I needed to to was find a way to send and receive data to/from the plotter using the serial port.
A bit of research into .NET's serial port interface and using a bunch of small pieces of test code I have manged to completely re-jig this driver.
Upgrades include:
- Direct Serial Port comms using Null Modem cable (a USB to serial adaptor + null modem should also work)
- Plot area read from the plotter - a rectangle the size of the plot area is placed on a separate layer and coloured red
- Testing to see if selected plotting curves are both closed and inside of the cutting area - with errors shown and exiting if they are not right.
- After plot 'parking' of the plot head at the end of the cut items + an adjustable offset (currently requires manual resetting of origin on the plotter before for next cut)
Great thing is it is now 100% running within Rhino Python - no DOS command line calls = no flashing up of the CMD wind. Also no temp files needed on the HDD and no limit to number of curves that can be plotted - tested with 200 or so with no issues.
Overall very happy with whole project - have learnt a LOT about Python and .NET interfacing AND ended up with a very handy/useful tool.
Cheers
DK

thisthe errorthat appen when i lunch E+ with only one zone....what is going on???? …
been written about it and I manage to get both of them started with this:
(VB.NET)
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim doc1 As String = "C:\Users\Xavier\Desktop\Test_GH\Test à changer.gh" Dim type As Type = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("Rhino5x64.Application", True)
'Start Rhino
Dim rhinocomobj As Object = Activator.CreateInstance(type) rhinocomobj.visible = True While rhinocomobj.IsInitialized() = 0 Threading.Thread.Sleep(100) End While
'Start GH and open a file
rhinocomobj.RunScript("_Grasshopper", 0) Dim gh As Object = rhinocomobj.GetPlugInObject("b45a29b1-4343-4035-989e-044e8580d9cf", "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000") gh.OpenDocument(doc1)
From what I understood, this creates a separated COM object, but I don't know how I can manipulate it. For example, how can I get the RhinoDoc, the GH Document and so on?
I tried :
Dim RhinoDocument as RhinoDoc = RhinoDoc.ActiveDoc
but this throws an exception "System.dllNotFoundException" about RhinoCommon.dll, despite RhinoCommon.dll has been set as a Reference of the Project.
I tried as well to build a new class which sits inside GH (DLL as a reference + GHA inside GH library) as per David's suggestion: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/call-gh-from-c-code, and to access properties but I still get the same "DLL Not Found" exception whenever I use GH commands through this tailor made class.
At last, I tried using RhinoScript Interface through commands like :
gh.AssignDataToParameter, but this doesn't change the value, this doesn't throw any exception neither.
I would like to get full access in order to change parameters from a GH document, output geometries and DWG files, and so on.
I don't know if I am being really clear but any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

t BBox will then be mapped relative to the UVW space of that box to the new target boxes.
Where your definition is slipping up is the data matching aspect of GH. You have two lists (that count). One list contains 100 items of target boxes and the other contains 2 items of geometry. GH defaults to the Longest List data matching
List A --> List B
Target Box A0 --> Cuboid
Target Box A1 --> Cylinder
Target Box A2 --> (Oops List B has run out of items. Now GH will repeat the last item = Cylinder)
Target Box A3 --> Cylinder
.....
Target Box J9 --> Cylinder
Solution
There are two approaches to rectify this the most logical would be to group the geometries into one object (What you had in mind with the bounding box) to do this use the Group Component on the Transform Tab > Utility Panel.
The other approach is far more common in GH mentality. Use the Graft, right click the G input of Morph and select Graft from the Context Menu. This places all of the items in the List on to separate branches. Creating a list of lists (although these new list only have one item). When GH now tries to data match them it will apply the whole of the first geometry list (Only the Cuboid) to all of the target boxes and all of the second list (Cylinder) to the target boxes again.
I hope this helps…
mething like an i7 with four cores would serve best. i am running 4x3.4 here. you should see 100% cpu utilization when solving.
2) model specifics: topology (= how many elements coming together in one joint), joint and support freedom, which both define the number of degrees of freedom of the model. the more DOF, the larger the stiffness-matrix to invert , the longer computation time. truss-bars are a LOT faster than beam elements.
3) loads and load cases: in general the more load cases, the longer the solving time. the more load vectors on single nodes (which it all comes down to), the longer too. but loads dont affect the computation time too much, especially since once the stiffness matrix has been inverted, most load cases can be applied to it i think.
eigenmodes take a LOT longer to compute than normal analysis, in certain karamba releases the automatic calculation of the first eigenmode (for debugging your geometry) was turned on inside the analysis module when something was wrong with the actual calculation to debug. this could turn out to be pretty annoying with big models so now it's turned off again.
with 'nonlinear', do you mean the large deformations iterative approximation component of karamba?
an average model with 10000 beams and three load cases takes ~400ms here, so take this times 20 for some non-linear iterations and you are there, roughly.

copy this component so I have the same points but into another geometry collection why is it that grasshopper show me only the first set (in green I mean) when I click on the component and not when I am clicking on the second one (those remain red).
This thing gets annoying when I go further in developing my definition because I have sets which may contain the same objects but still I would like to see exactly which elements they have inside even if they shares those elements with other components.
(see image attached)
Is there a way to avoid this?
Second question, since I found myself a lot of time in need of an integer slider for example which span let's say from 0 to 10 or 100, or a curve of degree 2 and a close one, not to mention the evaluation of a curve at its midpoint, is there a way which those things can be put into the shelf and for example be called for example "integer slider", or "closed 2d curve". I tried with the cluster but for the slider for example I couldn't do that. Sounds silly but in the end is something which can spare some time..
Thanks a lot
