ld work.
For example there's a grid shell and I've got a number of control points (for example 3) that can move up and down.
Depending on the control points I get forms that are structurally good and some that are bad.
In my office we've got a GH-Component, which leads the geometry in structural members and solves the structural forces and so on through an external Software called Sofistik and afterwards gives back to GH some Values, for example maximum bending moments. (Like Karamba)
Now I want to create this optimization component or something like that to minimize e.g. the bending moments in the given geometry.
Let's start with the work of the component.
So when I've three control points that can only move in z-direction.
P1(0,0,Z1), P2(10,0,Z2), P3(5,5,Z3)
They only depend on Z, so everything depends on Z1 to Z3 which have a range between 0 and 10 f.e.
First I want to get some (between 9 and 15) random Particles, one particle consists of this 3 different Z's.
So for example the first particle Part1 is [Z1=10, Z2=5, Z3=7]
and the second particle Part2 is [Z1=7, Z2=1, Z3=9]
and so on.
I created these Start Particles in a Cluster. See attached file.
I also tried this in C#, but thought it is easier in GH.
After I've got the Start Particles I want to give out the first particle and evaluate with its including Z's the target value in GH. Therefore I had to take the first branch and graft this branch (Discussion before)
Afterwards I want to save this Target Value that depends on the first starting Particle. Then I want to give out the second starting Particle to evaluate its target Value and store it. And so on till the last target Value of the last Starting Particle got assigned.
Then I want to assign the particles with its target values. E.g. part1: t=0.9, part2: t=1.8...
Then I want to define neighborhoods or the count of the expected local minima.
These neighborhoods can look like: Each neighborhood has to include not less than 3 particles. And the particles have to be next to each other.
E.g. if there are 12 particles and I want to have a look for 3 local minima, I need 3 or 4 neighborhoods. Then I would take 3 neighborhoods, because the more particles in one neighborhood, the better.
So the Count of the neighborhoods would be N=min{(Count of Part/3)& N_min}
How to define these neighborhoods I don't know at the moment. I think it has to be searched for the distance between the particles. E.g. part1 with (9,9,9) and part2 with (9,9,8) are next to each other but part 3 with(1,1,2) is far away.
Then each StartParticle is set to Partx_localbest.
And in each Neighbourhood the best of these localbeststs is Part_NyBest. (The best ist the one with the smallest target Value)
Loop:
Now I want to create new Particles. These Particles don't change their Z-values randomly. They change their Z-Values depending on Part_NxBest and Part_localBest. Therefore it has to be evaluated a new velocityfactor with v_Partx_new=0,792*v_PartxOld+1,5*random(0,1)*(partx_localbest-partx)+1,5*random(0,1)*(part_NyBest-partx)
The new particles will then be partx_new=partx+v_Partx_new.
The new Particle partx_new will be set to partx and then set in the output.
then there has to be caught the targetValue of part1 afterwards part2 can be put out and its target value caught and so on.
Then it has to be looked for the Partx_localbest through comparing the partx_localbest and its target value with the new part_x and its target value. If the target value of the new partx is smaller than partx_localbest,
then partx_localbest is the new partx.
This has to be done for each partx. Afterwards the same for neighborhoods best (best of all partx_localbest in one neighborhood)
Endloop if velocity gets small.
Output all part_NxBest
Output all targetvalues of the part_NxBests.
So in the Input there have to be:
StartParticles if they are given through the cluster attached.
Device on the target Value like in the attached gh.file from David Rutten I found in the discussions
Count of neighborhoods
And in the output
Output particle for evaluation
Output all part_NxBest
Output all targetvalues of the part_NxBests
Hope didn’t forget anything. And hope it isn’t crushed to badly. Sorry for my bad English by the way ;-)
For more explanation, how the PSO works in other programs. There’s attached a workflow script (is it called like that?) I think for GH it should be a little bit changed like I tried in my explanations.
So if you can help me a in some parts or you have any advices would be great, otherwise thank you nevertheless!!!!
Thankfully there’s no limit for the words in the discussions :-D
Best, Heiko

What it does have to do with is an ancient and basically fundamental design problem with Windows itself. This problem is typically called "DLL Hell". In the beginning ((Windows 2) when RAM was expensive and scarce, MS enabled Windows programs to use many different small modules that were loaded dynamically (DLL = Dynamic Link Library) as needed. It quickly became common practice for different programs to use the same DLL file to do the same thing.
But nasty problems happened when Program A updated a DLL in a way the caused Program B, which used the same DLL, to crash. MS spent literally thousands of support hours resolving these problems. That was very expensive.
So starting with Windows 7 (I think) Microsoft tried to reduce this kind of issue by establishing the WINSXS directory. It's purpose is to store all the versions of a DLL file used by different programs. It also has internal links so that different programs references to a given DLL are mapped to the copy of that DLL Windows has saved in WINSXS for each application. This keeps all the same-named DLLs separate and lets each program use it's own copy.
That's the theory, and it works OK as long as everything with WINSXS is OK. But - if somethings goes wrong with WINSXS, then the program can't find the DLL it needs, and you get the "Windows Side-by-Side" error message. This prevents the program from running.
There are no tools for dealing with WINSXS. The best method I know of to fix WINSXS problems is to completely uninstall the failing program and reinstall it. This either will work, or it won't. If it fails to work you can try restoring from a prior Restore Point. If that fails you will probably have to reinstall Windows and start over with reinstalling all your software.
Remember, I said it was a bad problem.
There is another issue with WINSXS that gets little attention, and that is that it gets larger every time you install a program. This is because Windows does not do a good job of removing things from WINSXS. It seems that with WIN 8/10 MS has improved this slightly, but WINSXS will still get increasingly large over time.
This means that at some point it will either fail in some way or consume all the space on your boot disk. So a good idea is to do a complete boot disk reformat/Windows reinstall every few years.…

"Unable to load Grasshopper.dll plug-in: Rhino version not specified."

I tried creating the new user and looks like that one works too, but I do need my current "user" profile as there are a lot of things already set up well, do not want to miss those.
If someone could advise me on where to look for the problem?

When I run the analysis: it shows: solution exception: expected index value got str
Length of the results [=1] is not equal to the number of mesh faces [=72]
What is the source of length of the results?
Question 1_2_For the 004_gridBasedAnalysis (new version):
I attached new box by adding new breps, and the floor shows the numbers on the floor.
The result would change when I changed the opening ratio in step 7, but it would not change when lower or higher the opening ratio in step 6. Therefore, I am confused of the work of index for opening ratio in step 6.
Question 2 _For illuminanceAnalysis
I would like to attach customized geometry for window, so I tried this file.
The floor brep is unable to be loaded when I open the “ illuminanceAnalysis” file that you posted online, but the window brep is loadable.
If I would like to analyze different geometry of fenestration, such as perforated screen, should I attach the screen to the window brep?
Question 3_For Shading for daylighting
I would like to do the shading effect based on grid Analysis, so I add floor in the original file but it shows error “ index out of range: 0”.
If I would like to use different geometry of louvers, such as teethed blind, what can I do for that?
Above all, I would like to analyze different geometry of fenestration systems, such as special louvers or perforated screens, so I would like to attach those complex geometry to daylight analysis. When I went through the workshop video on youtube, I guess those analysis is mainly based on glazing, so I am still confused that how I can connect different geometry of fenestration to Ladybug and Honeybee. Is there any example file that shows analysis of perforated screen or similar design?
Thank you so much for your reply.…

http://www.pilkington.com/) dominates the planar market. Charges "around" 1K Euros per m2 for a "plain" system. Personally in bespoke projects I design my own stuff but due to economies of scale ... they cost a bit more (but they look far more sexier, he he) . On the other hand only in a bespoke project I could dare to suggest such a solution (for a large scale building we are talking lots and lots of dollars).
3. Several scales below (aesthetics) you can find static alu systems (either structural or semi-structural):
Or hinged systems (either structural or semi-structural) capable to adapt in contemporary double curvature facades/roofs/envelopes/cats/dogs etc etc ... pioneered worldwide many years ago by my best friend Stefanos Tampakakis (everybody in UAE knows that genius man: http://www.alustet.gr/company.html):
4. With the exception of some paranoid things that Guru Stefanos does for Zaha these days we are talking about planar "facets" (obviously a triangle is such a planar facet). The current trend is: the more edges the better (humans excel in vanity matters). But achieving planarity in, say, quads (like yours) it adds another "restriction" on what you are doing. Until recently Evolute Tools Pro was the only answer. But right now ... well let's say that in short time you'll be greatly surprised by some WOW things in this Noble Forum, he he.
5. MERO (and obviously custom systems) can adapt (at almost no extra charge) in anything imaginable. But in a bespoke building ... well.. you know ultra rich people: they don't want MERO anymore since "everybody" does MERO solutions. Vanity, what else?
6. Smart Glass would become a must in the years to come: Eco-Architecture MUST dominate everything you do. On the other hand spending millions to do some extra WOW stuff (Vanity) ... it doesn't look to me very Eco-Friendly/Whatever ... but let's pretend so, he he.
7. I'm Architect but a bit different from the norm: for instance I smoke cigars (highly politically incorrect stuff) I always talk openly (ditto) and I ride lethal bikes (ditto).
may the Force (as always the Dark Option) be with you: go out there and kill them all.

e actual method.
Below, I descibe how they work:
1) drag "scheduleDay" onto the canvas
2) drag some Gene Pool lists onto the canvas and connect a number slider - from 0 to 3.
3) connect the Gene Pool list to _genePool input. The component change some important features of the Gene Pool list automatically. Now you have LB_GenePool!!
4) choose the template that it's suitable for you.
5) disconnect LB_GenePool and if templates are not good, you can change them manually
6) drag "Ladybug annual schedule" onto the canvas
7) Connect LB_GenePools to inputs for the days of the week, Epw file and if you want to "_holiday" (in this way you consider holidays). Now you have your simple schedule.
8) a small workflow to visualize it into Rhino..
9) Connect "Ladybug annual schedule" to "Honeybee_Create CSV Schedule" to make your csv Schedule
You could make a schedule more complex than the one in the example above.
You can do that with _analysisPeriod input.
