d the workshop PDF from this link: http://goo.gl/bcvRNH Download event poster from this link: http://goo.gl/Q0KWCM Brief: Cairo is filled with barriers controlling people movements, suppressing them as well as detaining green and public spaces to the extent that most people have been taking these spaces for granted. Public spaces have been for a while the periphery of our daily life. We will explore in this workshop how we can manipulate and alter people’s perception and direct their attention to how these spaces are integral for city life. This exploration will be backed up by intensive technical tutorials introducing computational design and fabrication techniques and tools mainly Rhino, Grasshopper, Geco and Ecotect. Not only will this be the typical technical workshop, but rather you will also have the chance to be guided step by step on how these tools are used through out different design stages in a real world scenario. Design prototypes will be produced through 3D printing, the main workshop output will be a fabricated one to one functional model for one of the designs using our new in-house CNC machine. with Istanbul Technical University, will continue to rediscover verticality through novel generative design techniques and large-scale physical prototypes. Abstracted as a fusion of various sub-systems, each subsystem of the tower will be investigated in relation to their various performance criteria. The correlations between the separate sets of performance criteria and evaluation methods will be analyzed, leading to the generation of unified design alternatives for a vertical system typology. In addition to the custom-made digital design and evaluation tools supporting the core methodology, Vertical Interventions will also highlight the fabrication and assembly of a large scale working prototype integrating the performative characteristics of each system in examination.
As in 2012, the design agendas of AA Athens and AA Istanbul Visiting Schools will directly create feedback on one another, allowing participation in either one or both Programmes.

th the most crucial and imposing challenges that Mexico City faces and the ways in which architecture and urbanism can shape the metropolis at different scales. In these sense the progamme sees the city as a laboratory where the virtual and experimental tradition of the Architectural Association finds a fertile and concrete ground for the application of its methodology in Mexico.
“Manufactured Landscapes/Manufactured Urbanities” explores the metropolitan condition understood as a manufactured process by and for human beings. Henceforth the traditional opposing concepts, artificial vs nature, are replaced under the premise, nature does not exist, where nature is not natural but naturalised and the artificial is not an external or impose construct but manufactured intrinsically.
With this as a starting point the programme will study 2 instances of Mexico City’s “Manufactured Landscapes/Manufactured Urbanities”: The ravines in the west of Mexico City, last bastion of the existing “Nature” and its crucial role in the viability of Mexico City and social housing, as the fundamental construct of the “artificial” habitat in the metropolis´s urban tissue. These “Manufactured Landscapes/Manufactured Urbanities” and the ways in which they are designed, produced, reinvented regenerated, show a vast spectrum representative of the crucial urban conditions to be address and therefore they posed an enormous urban and architectonic challenge to confront in order to apply contemporary design methodologies.
To tackle the complexities of the “Manufactured Landscapes/Manufactured Urbanities”, the programme will immerse students and staff in a 10 day intensive workshop within a multidisciplinary environment where national and international experts from various fields will enrich their proposals. Students will work in architecture and/or urban scale teams and will critically assess the impact of their multiple scales interventions.
A backbone of lectures, talks and seminars, including local and international speakers, are designed to broaden and reflect the relevance and the importance of the topic for Mexico City. Finally a public exhibition of student’s work will be held at Centro Cultural de España in autumn 2013.

he Summer in the City program, part of the Portland School of Architecture and Allied Arts (an extension to University of Oregon).
Using both Grasshopper and the Firefly plug-in, this workshop will focus on the design of innovative facade prototypes that are configurable, sensate, and active. Students will become familiar with the terminology used in interactive facade design including an overview of hardware (ie.sensors, actuators, and programmable microcontrollers) as well as software interfaces terminology. We'll learn new prototyping techniques and develop digital and physical models which can respond to a plurality of environmental and user driven forces. This workshop will take a hands-on approach, and you will walk away with the ability to build your own custom electronic circuits (using the Arduino), as well as create interactive simulations and models.
This course will primarily focus on physical computing techniques. Unfortunately, given the time constraints of the workshop, I will not be able to provide an extensive overview of the Grasshopper interface (it is suggested that participants have some familiarity with the Rhino/Grasshopper environment). There are many great online resources to get you up to speed relatively quickly if you are new to this software. This is a good place to start.
The course will be held at the School of Architecture and Allied Arts in Portland, OR. The date/times of the workshop are as follows:
Friday July 19, 5:00-7:50 P.M.
Saturday July 20, 9:00 A.M.-3:50 P.M.
Sunday July 21, 1:00-3:50 P.M.
If you are a designer, architect, or anyone who is interested in learning about the digital tools and technology trends that are revolutionizing design today, this workshop is for you. Make sure to click here to find out more about registration and enrollment in this exciting new workshop.…
he path curve into a polycurve (arc and line segments). In this member it seems the orientation vector is near parallel to the end segment, so a default orientation is assumed.
Your gh definition was saved in a state to generate IFC4 (right click on bake component). But your path curves aren't "planar". I've attached a definition that projects interpolated points onto a planed fit to 3 points. Then I get a lot more members created in Revit (I've not seen you can create a non-planar path curve in Revit). Revit does have nurbs capability, but not as functional as Rhino and you'll see few members out of position. You could try building the curves with fewer points, but if you accept a generic model beam (difficult to edit but should represent ok in revit) then I've been working on a new workflow to generate non-planar or arbitrary elements in Revit by exporting the geometry to a .dwg or .sat (2014) file and then importing into a generic model family. It's much slower but can achieve nurbs geometry transfer. I'll demonstrate this soon (I need to check on the sweep I'm getting).
Note Revit 2014 seems to have gone backwards from Revit 2013 in depicting beams with nurbs profiles, so anyone creating similar should stick to 2013 until a patch (or 2015) comes out. I'll monitor this.
Hope it helps, will post the alternate method ASAP.

2:同じファンクション内のdist = rs.Distance(self.pos,b.pos)についてですが
cognises the importance of providing space for the local creative economy of the Samba Schools within the Port of Rio de Janeiro, after having ignored their incorporation within the Porto Maravilha Waterfront Regeneration Project. Using this new incorporation strategy as our impetus, the Rio de Janeiro Visiting School will work directly with this initiative and aim to broaden its scope and accessibility in an attempt to foster a diverse public space for the Cidade de Samba (Samba City) infrastructure, a large warehouse complex built by the city for the top Samba Schools in the Port of Rio, which currently has no connection to the waterfront cruise-terminal tourist infrastructure, nor any type of amenities for the general public.
The projects will include the design of both permanent structures and temporary interactive installations transforming the existing closed production area of Samba City into an open space linked to proposed leisure itineraries along the waterfront. Structures will be designed with computational design methods and built with digital fabrication techniques with the assistance of local artisans combining new materials and processes with reappropriated Carnival paraphernalia. Students will build both models and partial one-to-one prototypes of their urban, architectural and interactive design proposals.
Instruction for the Visiting School workshop series will be led by AA Tutors and Assistants and local architects and specialists, the Escola de Carnaval Artistic Directors, and Carnival float-fabricators. Specifically, participants will learn computational design using rhino, grasshopper, processing, and arduino as well as the use of c.n.c. milling and routing, laser cutting and rapid-prototyping. No previous experience is necessary. The workshop is open to architecture and design students and professionals worldwide.
