. Truth is that in 99.9999% of cases is just a couple of code lines specifically written for ...er ... a specific case (meaning that is useless for other cases). Making a Jack for all trades capable to manage ANY situation ... means quite a few hours of brain(?) storming ... and anyway this is not the way that I approach things because I have absolutely no interest to do GH "plug-in" type of stuff.
See the left vertical bar and imagine doing business with the small S: There's 2 "clash" situations occurring: the upper has meaning (where cat VS dog and dog VS cat yields a valid "split") but the lower yields an invalid solid since that "portion" of the S can't split the bar (it only just "penetrates" into the solid).
In order to fix things we need to gather information about things called BrepTrims ("indexed" Curves per BrepFace - so to speak) that (in this case anyway) are either Mated or Boundary ... or ... hmm ... Seam (but should not be any Seam in fact).
This C# for instance gets the invalid breps (per recursive split) and samples these mysterious BrepTrims in an object type of Data Tree: the main dimension is the Brep face index, the equivalent second dim 0 contains the BrepTrim curve and the other has booleans for an 1:1 "rating" of the trim based on a simple question: are you a Seam? (== bad boy)).
Thus "reconstructing" an invalid brep is rather easy based on what that Tree tells us :
What all the above ultra freaky and.or confusing and/or off-topic things mean? Well ... I have about 20 C# that do any imaginable Brep "opp"/query ... but are all classified as internal > thus > as I said, one of these days I'll try to remove "some" lines of code and post something that can do a thing or two more on that matter.…

t know if it's common knowledge but in the PD of jewelry, for large scale production, the options are in the dozens if not in the hundreds as in a 3 stone ring (that's my next quest and believe me it is extremely complex and elaborated) which, if you do not draw the line somewhere, you could end up with a definition 10 times as big. I could make a list of the preliminary factors and you could begin to understand at least this one presented here, that looks simple but is not.
If you are a real jeweler and know how many details (interdependent with each others) are needed in order to cover unpredictable factors and lousy tolerances then you'll begin to cover an overextended territory.
For example: if you get to certain stone size then the prongs need to change, but not the bezels, and the bite for setting can go for technical integrity up to a point, because then the look is not appropriate.
If the metal it's platinum you can leave some things as they are but interconnections for metal flow has to change in some area but not if it is in gold.
Some stone count may not fit a particular finger size without going too high or too low, so the bezels need to compensate for this in thickness and visual relationship between them so that when I input a different finger size GH knows what to do based on many more factors etc. etc.
The fact that all geometry is in GH accounts for so many more components.
All this needs to work across the definition, so that if I say this is the stone size I want, all the prongs will need to move apart to have the right bite but with a diameter that is not out of proportions otherwise the stones need automatically to move slightly apart. It's endless.
For this reason we needed to define the market expectations (and have all controls for those ones in GH) and leave the eccentric to a manual manipulation.
Grasshopper it's a hell of a tool to transfer my 40 years of jewelry making (since a little boy :)
but I think I am using maybe 20% of its power.
We used SolidThinking because of the construction tree but there is nothing like Rhino and GH combined!
I wish I was free to share this definition in order to learn from advanced minds here but this time I can't. The next one will be mine (intellectual and technical property) and I can't wait to see how other will take it to the next level.
That's the best way to learn.…
something (C# or components) that does a planer periodic nurbs - any shape imaginable in fact (shown a humble "figure of 8").
2. Imagine a capability (C# only: sorry) to create a "guide" (indicative/intermediate) surface. Basically: patch the nurbs from step 1 against a variety of user controlled curves/points/cats/dogs/you name it.
3. Imagine doing this U/v quad mesh thingy (we can fill the "gaps" [C# only: sorry] with the base boundary easily - especially when triangulating the mesh - but better work as shown):
4. Imagine calling the cavalry (Kangaroo) and instructing to do ... things on that "normalized" mesh.
5. What things? Well ... like equalize edges, "inflate", planarize the quads (extra WOW stuff that one), pull it against the "guide" surface [from step 2] or some other weird ideas of mine.
this is what V2 does (WIP).

This I found by following the instructions here:
https://github.com/ladybug-tools/butterfly/wiki/Getting-started-with-butterfly-in-grasshopper
HOWEVER:
At home here on my newer, faster Windows 10 machine - no such luck. This is becoming quite frustrating as I feel I am failing some obscure intelligence test.
I have attached what I suspect is the likely problem identifier - not that it has helped me identify the fix. What I believe is the salient message is appears in the OF_Env_Create Powershell Window (Running as Administrator) , which is step 3 on the Windows 10 special instructions found here:
https://github.com/ladybug-tools/butterfly/wiki/Windows-10-Installation-Notes
The message (in red as can be seen in the attached picture) states:
Set-ExecutionPolicy : Windows PowerShell updated your execution policy successfully, but the setting is overridden by a policy defined at a more specific scope. Due to the override, your shell will retain its current effective execution policy of "Unrestricted". Type "Get-ExecutionPolicy -List" to view your execution policy settings. the use of digital technologies as architectural design tools. The workshop " Computer Aided Design: parametric design and digital fabrication " aims to do some introductory teaching in the use of some of these tools.
The workshop will focus on the use of computational models of parametric behavior for generating architectural forms. The generative capacity of these models it will be tested in the development of designs defined by repetitive non-standard components, based on the parametric control of its variations and series differentiations. This process will be developed by the use of a three-dimensional modeling software - Rhinoceros, associated with an application for visual programming - Grasshopper.
The last day of the workshop is dedicated to the use of digital manufacturing tools in architecture. Part of the work will take place at the facilities of the Institute of Design of Guimarães (IDEGUI) providing for the use of their laboratories and manufacturing CNC machines (computer numerically controlled).
At the end of the workshop, it is intended the students to understand that the use of digital technologies in architecture can overcome representational functions, and their integration in the design conception, analysis and construction enriches the methodology of project development.
Terms & Participants
The workshop will take place at the School of Architecture of the University of Minho (Campus Azurém, Guimarães) and the Institute of Design of Guimarães (Couros, Guimarães).
The workshop is pointed at students who attend the 3rd year and 4th year from MiArq, EAUM.
The maximum acceptance is 20 students and a minimum of 10 students.
Deadline for entries is April 11 and must be performed by eaum.pac@gmail.com.

16-20 / PUEBLA JULY 23-27
This workshop is intended primarily for architects and designers interested in learning parametric and generative design applied to the generation and rationalization of complex geometries for their implementation in different design processes. The course will cover basic concepts and methodology to address many design issues through the development of algorithmic tools via a visual programming language and the development of digital fabrication schemes. Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper are going to be used as our modeling tools and V-Ray as our rendering engine. Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm and from 4pm to 8pm 40hrs.
No previous knowledge of Rhinoceros 3D or programming required, CAD background desirable.
