h is attached below. it`s an arch, let`s say out of bricks with loads, represented with point loads which are taken from user-defined surfaces (to represent self-wight e.g).
goal of the study is to find a supporting arch which is inside the arch then (provided the strength of the bricks is high enough) the arch is ok -otherwise one have to change the geometry of the arch (make it thicker, or change the rise of the crown).
therefore i used kangaroo in combination with galapagos to find a catenary which fulfill the boundary conditions. it works very well. so the solution galapagos found is very satisfying.
it`s simple to prove the resulting forces in the arch if one knows the rise of the arch.
according to the formula N~ q*l^2/(8*f)
with q= 21 kn/m, l= 10.00 m and f= 0.965
one get N= 272 kn, which is very near on the solution which kangaroo founds in the middle of the arch (271 kn). due to the point loads this force have to get slightly higher the nearer one comes to the anchor points. this works perfect too.
but there is one irritating thing.
at the end of the catenary, near the anchor points, kangaroo gets two very different arch-forces. 281 kn in the next to last part. and 581 kn in the very last part. this is not possible and i am sure that the value of 581 kn is wrong. i calculated the example with a commercial fea-program too. it validates the kangaroo results except the first and the last one.
i think there is a problem with the calculated end length of the first (and last) element. they are twice too long as they have to be. or do i something wrong?
thank you for any reply and again for your work.
best peter

yes!perfect! It has been a good example! The only thing that I would like to change is, that, instead of deform that following the control points on the surface's perimeter, I would like to deform all, with points in the shapes (in the middle of the circle for example). It is because I want, for example, the biggest circle in point 2, and the smaller circle in point 7. So, is it possible to do?
Summing up, is do the same, but changing the control points, putting them on the shapes (circles) instead the perimeter.
Thank you very much Danny and Chris, you are being really useful for me!
Thanks! Manuel

The PC actually stops working because after a few seconds the simulation starts the fan inside the PC all of a sudden stops and for the next 5-10 mins I cannot do anything, even alt+ctrl+canc. After I wait for that time i get the followig error:

The thing is that if I raise the -aa parameter from 0.05 to 0.1 all works fine..
Is this only related to my PC then?? What should I do to solve this issue?
Thanks again for your help

mi-reputable seller lists the chip they do it that way, not as a sum-total.
The way the number of physical cores vs logical cores is referred to does seem to be a bit less consistent though. Intel use hyper-threading to make each core 'sort of' act as 2 cores (the details here get very technical, and I'm just reporting here what I can figure out from a bit of online reading). So a dual-core Intel chip with hyper-threading on will show up as 4 CPUs in your performance monitor. I think depending on the scenario, hyper-threading can sometimes almost effectively double the performance relative to the number of physical cores, but in other cases it can actually make things slower.
Now AMD don't use hyper-threading, but they do have something a bit similar. Looking it up, apparently in the 8350 that Phillip lists above, there are 4 'modules', each with 2 cores on, sharing some resources, so it won't act the same as 8 separate cores on an Intel chip.
There is also a lot more to effective speed than just GHz, and 2 processors with the same clock speed and number of cores could still perform very differently, depending on their architecture and the size of the different caches (Anandtech has fascinating in depth technical reviews of processor models, though mostly way over my head).
Kangaroo2 is multi-threaded, specifically using the Task Parallel Library in .NET 4 and higher. This library is supposed to automatically adapt to make the best use of the number of available processors. However, managing this concurrency has its own overhead, and can sometimes be counter-productive. Depending on things like the size and nature of the task, and the details of the processors, something like a simple Parallel. For loop is sometimes faster, but sometimes slower. In the specific example in this KangaMark test, I was finding that having parallelism on was slightly improving the speed on my dual-core (2 physical, 4 logical) laptop, but this could vary with other machines. I suppose the test could be improved to report both single and multi-threaded performance.
Also bear in mind that there is probably still plenty of room for improvement in the way Kangaroo uses concurrency, and I would caution against placing too much weight on the results listed here.
Trying to understand the benefits of different hardware can get very complicated, and I don't think we all need to become experts in chip design, but if we can get a general idea of the effect on Rhino/Grasshopper/Kangaroo of things like AMD vs Intel, i7 vs Xeon, RAM quantity vs speed, hopefully we can help people prioritize and get better value for their money.…

The measure Entropy is newer. I hereby explain it (from my PhD dissertation):
Entropy values, as described in (Hillier & Hanson, The Social Logic of Space, 1984) and specified in (Turner A. , “Depthmap: A Program to Perform Visibility Graph Analysis, 2007), intuitively describe the difficulty of getting to other spaces from a certain space. In other words, the higher the entropy value, the more difficult it is to reach other spaces from that space and vice-versa. We compute the spatial entropy of the node as using the point depth set:
(11)
“The term is the maximum depth from vertex and is the frequency of point depth *d* from the vertex” (ibid). Technically, we compute it using the function below, which itself uses some outputs and by-products from previous calculations:
Algorithm 4: Entropy Computation
Given the graph (adjacency lists), Depths as List of List of integer, DepthMap as Dictionary of integer
Initialize Entropies as List(double)
For node as integer in range [0, |V|)
integer How_Many_of_D=0
double S_node=0
For depth as integer in range [1, Depths[node].Max()]
How_Many_of_D=DepthMap.Branch[(node,depth)].Count
double frequency= How_Many_of_D/|V|
S_node = S_node - frequency * Math.Log(frequency, 2)
Next
Entropies [node] = S_node

Another thing ' I posted a discussion few days ago and got no replies. And this forum is the only 'Hope' for me..Can you quickly check it?thanks.

h. For a while I have been thinking about the possibility of gpu computing for leveraging computation but I am still scratching the surface mostly. I know its a kind of hot topic in scientific computing. and I know there is a community of parallel programming with python... but that's more down the line of my development...
anyways, I ended up just sorting all the points by their z value.
So I have been able to use the vertex to extract color gradient and draw lines aligned to the vertex normals. However the normals at the edges of the slabs I get diagonal normals, and they seem to be somewhat inconsistent. I would need to either round them up to a certain angle or cull them out... not sure how to do this right now.
and I feel there should be a convenient way to organize and branch points by what faces, mesh, or close curve they are included. and I found this thread where I can test points by their surface inclusion. I have never used the "D" output of surface evaluate but this might work.
Well anyhow the fun begins - facade design!
I want to detail rainscreen panels and offset them where there is more radiation falling over the course of the year.
I also want the southern facade to work like a solar chimney (in the lower half, like a climbing solar chimney) that channels hot air building up the facade from the sun all the way to the roof, and pull air cross the interior out of vents. So I need to further divide the facade surface breps to fixed rainscreens and operable shades.
my goal is to move the information over to detail and specificate to revit. and this would make a good occasion to test out the brand new mantis shrimp. I hope I can run revit + dynamo and this analysis together :)
So I think I might be at the end of this particular thread - the answer to the RAM bottleneck is - DOWNSIZE YOUR SAMPLES!
