of tensiles ... the Birdair/Taiyo Kogyo combo is like the 3 big German luxury saloon car makers combined (I mean that in 99.99% of cases you'll end up buying a S Class or an ugly 7 series or that 8 quattro).
So ... in a nutshell: It's a ping-pong thing: you design the "outline", Birdair calculates the membrane related forces, you test custom components (MSC Nastran, STAAD, RAM etc), you get feedback from someone capable to do these in real-life (like Donges GmbH), you argue about the cost (hideous, as usual), you replace bespoke custom cast things with commercially available ugly bits ... etc etc etc.
The big issue is that the whole design is supposedly a thing carried over under "some" BIM umbrella ... therefore the master composer must be either Revit (no thanks) or AllPlan (ditto) or AECOSim (yes please).
But these archaic things they don't understand an iota from MCAD stuff (most notably the assembly/component discipline or advanced feature driven nested components). But all things considered Microstation + Generative Components + AECOSim + Bentley structural analysis verticals define the most complete solution that you can use.
Moral: Chaotic chaos, what else?

ever radiance actually needs the transmisivity in order to account for the internal reflections of the glass. There is a formula for this shown on page 7 of the radiance primer.

Mostapha has embedded this formula into the code so that for the radGlassMaterial component transmisivity is automatically written to radiance/daysim.
Furthermore transmisivity works for both daylighting and solar radiation studies where the input transmittance is visible transmission for daylighting and SHGC for the latter.
However what I am not entirely clear about is what is the purpose of theavrgTrans output where theavrgTrans = 0.265 * RedTransmittance + 0.670 * GreenTransmittance + 0.065 * BlueTransmittance. Mostapha I understand that this the photometric "visible transmittance" so why is it not used for daylighting simulations?

My question is, would anyone know how to create a script to sort these into loops of faces, so that, for instance, the sequence 0,1,4,5,16,17,20,21 could be sorted into an ascending item number of 0 through to 7, and so on and so forth for the rest of the rows or columns in the mesh?

to run at full screen. I've gone as far as using an iPad to use as the second monitor via AirDisplay (which actually works really well) but have never been satisfied with any setup that required you to look back and forth as if at a tennis match all day long.
Not long after first using Grasshopper 3+ years ago I've had the desire for a "Live Viewport" component that would allow a live image of the 3d geometry being generated directly in the canvas. Every once in a while I search the forums with the hope of finding a solution, but always come up empty handed. Someday this might exist although for now I have found what might be the next best thing to a native "Live Viewport" component and its enabled with a small app named Sticky Previews. This app uses the task bar preview feature within Windows 7's aero interface to create custom, floating preview windows from any open window currently running. I've only just discovered the app, but it seems to do the trick and has been stable and problem free so far. -- I will post an update if I find out that I might have spoken too soon. The install allows for a 30 day trial and is $15 bucks to purchase. I just found the app and don't know anything about this group that created the app. If you happen to know of them, Id be curious to find out more.

I have never closed a command window
My working directory is set to c:\ladybug
I have the latest versions of ladybug and honeybee.
However, I still can't successfully generate a simulation result. The readme from runDaylightAnalysis consistently says Could not find file 'C:\ladybug\...\error.log'. And it's true that it's not there. If I create a blank text file called error.log and place it where it expects, running the GH script deletes it.
System:
Windows 7 64-bit
Rhino 5, base file has units of meters
Grasshopper 0.9.0.0076 (latest)
Ladybug 0.0.63, Honeybee 0.0.60
Radiance 5.0.a.12 (released 2 weeks ago)

hen 6 triangles meet at a vertex. You can create double curvature by having a valence 5 (positive curvature, like a sphere), or 7 (negative curvature "saddle shape").
Such meshes were studied by Alain Lobel in the 1980's (maybe even before that). There is a paper mentioning them in the proceedings of AAG2014. Repetition of panels is also studied here, with the use of clustering, which can be very efficient.
You can look at the SMART Clustering plug-in developped by Buro Happold, I've never tried it, but it looks interesting and maybe suited for what you're aiming for.

P.S: If you are interested in repetition, you can also look at repetition of members (e.g. constant length) or repetition of nodes. Most of the research deals with repetition of panels, but repetition of nodes could be also interesting because they are much more difficult to fabricate than panels. Two references about node repetition: one for a specific family of shapes with high node congruence , and the other on the use of hyperbolic geometry for 3-valent meshes.

mainly grasshopper. (If it were just Rhino it perhaps would have been easier for me). I've been working on it for a while now and I unfortunately am a bit stuck.
Below are some of my concerns:
1) I know the theory of what I'm suppose to do which is to have the rectangular base and scale it then array it up. However I noticed that the thickness of the each lath and support varies. There are 25 laths in all and from the structure diagram I have gathered that there are basically 4 groups of the same thickness from the base going up its the first 9, then 7, then 5 and then the top 3. I just can't seem to figure out how to vary the thickness. I would assume the attached lath and support definition diagrams would help but unfortunately I don't know how to read it. I've tried some formulas which didn't exactly work but I still included them in the file.
2) I also need to figure out how to create the hole in the structure which is the entrance. I know in Rhino I could just Boolean it out but is there a way to do it in grasshopper?
3) I also need helping figuring out the definition for putting the vertical supports in between each row. The diagram says something fancy about "Testing acceptable constraints in flexion and in shear, we find an acceptable eccentricity that varies with each row." Ok maybe it wasn't so fancy but I have no clue how to do that with grasshopper!
4) My lecturer wants a Structure Simulation which I'm going to assume is what number 3 is all about?
I've attached my progress so far and would appreciate any help possible. I'd prefer if anyone could guide me using basic things (without any fancy plug-ins unless it's absolutely necessary).
However, any help is appreciated! Thank you so much in advance.
