2. WORKSHOP (23-27 April 2014)
A 5 day Design-Based Research Workshop exploring new techniques in Digital Architecture/Fabrication, with a specific focus on the use of generative systems and parametric modeling as tools for creative expression.
Our ultimate goal is to increasing the efficiency of utilizing digital tools in parallel with geometric performance of the primitive design agent.
+ + CONCEPT
Fashion and Architecture are both based on basic life necessities – clothing and shelter.
However, they are also forms of self-expression – for both creators and consumers.
Both fashion and architecture affect our emotional being in many ways.
The agenda of this workshop is to investigate on the overlap between these two areas of design, art & fashion.
Fashion and architecture express ideas of personal, social and cultural identity, reflecting the concerns of the user and the ambition of the age. Their relationship is a symbiotic one and throughout history, clothing and buildings have echoed each other in form and appearance. This only seems natural as they not only share the primary function of providing shelter and protection for the body, but also because they both create space and volume out of flat, two-dimensional materials.
While they have much in common, they are also intrinsically different – address the human scale, but the proportions, sizes and shapes differ enormously.
+ + + OBJECTIVES
So far, Architects have been using techniques such as folding, bending etc. to create space, structural roofs or different other structural shapes.
The agenda of this workshop goes further with the investigation of algorithmic thinking through generative tools Integrated in design.
The challenge is creating a bridge that connects these two areas of design, architecture and fashion that perform at two opposite scales.
+ + + + TECHNICAL BRIEF
In the early stages physical models and low-tech strategies will be used, allowing the participants to gain a greater understanding of materials, fabrication and assembly methods as well as simple, yet pragmatic structural solutions.
Later in the workshop these strategies will be digitalized and elaborated using software visualizing tools such as Rhinoceros and the algorithmic plug-in Grasshopper.…

ing topic, so I have followed every step in this discussion, including full uninstallation with Revo Installer Pro, restart and login in as Admin, UAC, turning off antivirus, full installation, and entering the commands in CMD with admin rights (replacing "your_regsvr32_folder_path" with my "C:\Windows\System32"). I have also tried the solution on page 2, namely typing:
%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32.exe /u /s c:\dev\mapwingis\mapwingis.ocx
%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32.exe /s c:\dev\mapwingis\mapwingis.ocx
However, I installed MapWinGIS-only-v5.0.1.0-x64.exe . Should I install the older version, MapWinGIS-only-v4.9.4.2-x64.exe instead?
I am using Rhino 6.1.18037.13441, Grasshopper 1.0.0004, IronPython 2.7.5.0, Windows 10 64bit,
Thank you very much!

s maybe mistake lies in my tread construction... 1. I was trying to do energy simulation for an apartment, consisting of 4 zones (hallway; wc; kitchen; living room). Apartment is located in multi storey building, in a way that heat loss is only trough one external wall, that also has a window. (so, no roof, no ground for this apartment=> it´s located on 5th floor between other floors(apartments)) 2. I tried to set necessary zone walls facing outwards to adiabatic (as there is no heat loss), but I couldn't find tutorial on how to do it in an efficient way (with multi zone situation), so, I deconstructed brep of one living room zone => assigned surfaces to adiabatic and external wall => created new HB zone (to run simulation this time for one zone only)
3. I assigned location, and requested energy simulation outputs (similarly like in Chris Mikey´s Honeybee tutorial on youtube), however after running simulation, i get 4 warnings and results for the total energy; total thermal energy; thermal energy balance; heating are missing.
I tried to google the warnings, but could not find the answer online. If anybody has time to look into this matter, I appreciate your time and effort. :) Sincerely, Aija…

he [SrfGrid] might be able to help a little bit.
2. With this definition you can make sure you always have even number of boats:
3. Are you trying to draw the convex hull of thes points? Then there is a gh native component for this.
Which can then produce a surface with a U of 2.
If you can provide some more info on what you are trying to do, maybe I can be of more help.
cheers,

use this to construct a Text3d that is aligned with its direction. This would be in world space and not screen space though (unlike the normal Grasshopper text tags). To have this update when rotating the view and such would however be quite involved (requiring events and quite some plumbing I suspect). I would probably consider other options (1: Using the options in CustomDisplay, 2: Outputting to the GH canvas and rendering using the default components or maybe Human, 3: Switching to a C# component assuming this has better options for you). The crashing sounds quite weird, it's difficult to troubleshoot without a file though.Edit: Just remembered that my colleague Paul has experience with accessing the DisplayPipeline from GHPython, might be worth hitting him up for advice.…
f that brep. So:
2- closest_pt is the point that is on the brep and happens to be closest to your test point (pt).
3- Component index is the index of the face or edge of that brep that the test point happens to be closest to.
4- s and t are the u and v coordinate of the surface that the test point is on.
6- A normal to a surface is a vector. I always initialize my values before passing them to a function.
This function takes few parameters. It uses some of them as input and assign new values to output parameters.
The input is the test point (pt), and the rest are outputs. That means if you check closest_pt, ci, s, t and normal after the function is executed, you'll see all of them have new values calculated inside the "brep.ClosestPoint(...)" including the "normal" which is what you need in this case.
Hope this is helpful.…

ation model, and I would be very grateful if you could help me to have a look.
1. The air change rate is assumed to be 0.5 times per hour and the infiltration rate is 0.1 times per hour, so I sum these two values and set the converted infiltration rate per area as 0.0005 m3/s-m2. I don’t know whether it is appropriate to sum these numbers and input them together in the “infiltration rate per area” part?
2. I found in the latest version, there is a component called “air flow”, which can edit natural ventilation, but if I set minIndoorTempForNatVent equal to the heatingSePt as you showed once in the forum, the simulation result of heating is ridiculous high (like 7000 kwh/m2a). If the minIndoorTempForNatVent value is set to be a little higher than the heatingSePt, the heating result looks much normal (like 200 kwh/m2a). I don't know whether there is anything wrong with my model or settings, and hope you could help me.
3. I want to add the cooling and heating COP values (2.8 and 0.8) in my simulation process. I have noticed that in the forum, you mentioned that the new component "setEPIdealAir" can help to add COP, but I am still very confused about how exactly it works. I would be very grateful if you could show me again here.
4. I tried to change the WWR and the U-value of the wall, but I found the results of cooling and heating (especially cooling) vary little, which is not supposed to be like that. I guess there should be something wrong...
That's all for my questions.
Thank you so much for your time in advance. I would be very grateful if you could help me in this model. It would be very helpful for my work.
Thank you again!
Cheers,
