    Hello the Wu,
Yes I am an 100% Chinese and currently studying architecture in Liverpool, UK.
    How about you?
  • Chun Qing Li

I'm a beginner of Grasshopper as I have been learning MicroStation Generative Components, and I hope we can share some experience we have.
I've been to the bss.shaper3d.cn, very surprises that the Grasshopper is so popular in China.
I've heard MAD, I bought their book called "MAD Dinner" in Chicago last summer. Apparently, the guy (can't remember his name) went to the Yale, then worked at Zaha Hadid for a bit, and now he is booming in China! This firm is hard core, mad, artistic and creative, they have done some interesting works, but very Hadid style - the Blobs.
I've been in the UK for nearly 10 years, don't have any Chinese friends (except the British born Chinese, but they are not Chinese at all), and don't know what's going on over China at all. I think it's the time to make some Chinese friends now and balance between the East and the West.
A question, do you know about the Architectural Association in London? Do you think the AA qualification helps me to get good opportunities in China? Because I'm planning to go there.

    Thank you Wudi.

In Architectural design, people think that the parametric is superficial, lack of narratives and history. What those people haven't realized that the parametric provides a new way of thinking and new approach towards the architectural concepts and designs. We should embrace the parametric design technology, taking the advantages for a more creative, precise and efficient design process and production. We (architects) should learn from other disciplines, such as airplane, shipbuilding and industrial design industries, they have been using these technology for their design and production for decades. On the other hand, the supreme design tool is still the human brain, the parametric software helps designer's creativity, but the creativity doesn't depend on the software. it's just another tool, which helps designer to manifest the ideas they have, and it doesn't make you a good designer!!! (This is my research and dissertation at University)

I also thought that the parametric was bullshit until I worked at Foster+Partners two years ago. Many jobs (or even the most of their jobs) have used parametric software (Bentley Generative Components).

I think i is good to know the parametric design tools and techniques, let's do our best and the future of the parametric is bright.

Regarding the AA qualification, don't you think the name helps? Especially in China? (of course you have to be a very good architect, not just the name).

My MSN is zyunsei@hotmail.com, catch you there, mate.

hey guys. finally I find you two chinese here. hope we can share some exprience at the parametric field.
  • Chun Qing Li

I understand that many architects and teachers don't accept the Parametric Architectural Design in China. Even in the UK, there are only few schools and architectural firms are using this technology. For Example, some of my tutors don't even know what parametric is, and they hate computers!?

One more question please. Do you know the Bartlett School of architecture, UCL in London? Do people know that school in China? Is the Bartlett approved in China? Are there huge difference between the AA and the Bartlett?
The reason I ask because I'll get the British Citizenship in November. As a home student, I only need to pay around £3000 for the Bartlett, but the AA is around £24,000 (bloody hell!!!). If Chinese think those schools are the same (for example, Cambridge and Oxford), I'll go to the Bartlett. What do you think, man?

    keep in touch.
