I run into a problem trying to import profiles with the ggCatalogueProfil Component.
I save my user profiles in the right direction. Usually it works very well, but now I have the problems that I cannot load the open surfaces as a brep...I just get the outline curves of my profiles.
    any idea?
And second question: is it possible to import differnt profiles which share the same 0 Coordinate. That after loading them into my definition they share the same insert point?
  • horst Becker

ok, found the problem: the tolerances in my rhino ducument were too low....

    Hi Jon,

hope you are well, I have been thinking on testing how to export parametric models into Revit and I was wondering if I need to install your other IFC plugins in addition to " + REVIT/VASARI 64 Bit Installers, contact me for 32 Bit?

    Hi everybody !

I have used grasshopper for few years, and I don't reach to understand the basics of the geometry gym for SAP2000 components.

Does somebody have a small tuto or a video to help me to understand how I can export my rhino model to SAP2000 ?

  • Tim

    Hey everybody,

Currently I have problems with baking my grasshopper structure into Oasys GSA. When I push the "bake to GSA" button, nothing happens. In my Rhino command window it says:

Material Count: 1, SectionProperty Count: 1, Node Count: 441, Element Count: 1240
    Load Case Count: 1

So apparently there is no error.

    Could anyone please help me?

    Kind regards

    Tim

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi Tim,

For GSA, you need to manually start GSA application (and close the default opening dialog) prior to any baking.  Else when a plugin initiates contact, the application is started as a background service (that the user can't access).  I can't control this, but the background service is useful for faster performance (when say running galapagos) and not having to manually close dialogs.  The Oasys webinar below has some explanation on this.

    Hope it helps.

  • ClaraML

I'm having a problem with GG and SAP2000. I'm using SAP2000 18, not 17. And I've detected at least one component (the library material) that search for information in the SAP17 route. Is there any way for changing that route and make the component search in the correct route? If not, I can duplicate the SAP18 folder and rename it like SAP17, so the component could find the information. Do you think it will work?

  • Qi WU

Hi Jon, For the latest version of ggSAP, the ggSAPCreateFrameProp component is not working properly. Is that a bug? It was working fine in your v17.1.1.

  • ClaraML

What's the error in the red globe? Does it work if you use the profile library instead of a panel for set the profile?
  • Qi WU

Hi Clara, I don't see a profile library, that's way I am using a panel.

Here is error: 1. Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    I don't think it's a input issue, cz it's a solution exception.

  • Jon Mirtschin

Is this error in v18 plugin?  Can you start a discussion thread or post to this one and attached your model (or a sample of it).

  • Derk Bos

    Hi Jon,

I'm trying to do a non lineair analysis on a tensegrity structure in GeomGym. For some reason, however, I don't obtain any results.

The ggGSASolver component doesn't give any error message, but for some reason the analysis doesn't run in GSA. When I do the analysis manually in GSA it does work however.

Do you have an idea what the problem could be?

    Kind regards,

    Derk

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi Derk,

If you add an analysis case, then you will get results.

    I've emailed you the definition.

    Hi Jon

I see your post about IFC script(python).

At first, thank you about sharing your research.

I see your IFC python sample file.

But when I opened IFC python file, i happened error message.

    Suddenly i wonder this cause.

Also, i am likely to studying IFC python script.

so I request you why this problem happened.

and how do i script correct for operating this component?

  • simone moroni

Hello, I'm trying to bake grasshopper 2D structure (is a section of my structural pannel) with the comand "ggSAPbakemodel" sap, but when I select "open model in SAP" it doesn't work and rhino goes to crash. I've SAP 14  version, is it too old for work with geometry gym?

Thank you very much for reply

  • Hiroshi Amano

    Hi Jon,

I'd like to try to use ggGSALoadGridArea for assigning wind loads on a grid frame.

Do you have any example file of using that component?  I thought the component's parameters basically correspond to GSA inputs, but there are something I'm not sure how to assign in gg.

    Thank you and regards,

    Hiroshi

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi Hiroshi,

I have a bespoke grid loading component, but it doesn't seem to have been used much so I'd advise using the GSA functionality.

I just created a folder to put sample files in Dropbox, browse into the Samples > Structural Analysis > GSA folder and there is a grid loading script there.  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xcyx6kec0yu3rrl/AAAag4-qOLkQSnbIzoa3VHa1...

    Cheers,

    Jon

    Hi Jon,

Thank you for quickly sharing many interesting examples.

The grid loading component looks working well in my current case.

As you can see from these two geodesic domes it seems like it can be created with two different permutations.

The geodesic dome which I am able to construct in GG is the 'wrong' one, I want the edges of the pentagons to be parallel. I believe it's a question about how the base icosahedron is flipped when the dome is created, is there a way to construct the right geodesic dome from your script?

Hey guys, ive been trying to use GG plugin, unfortunately I am an architect not a structural engineer, no clue in how to know what each section in the catalogues is shaped like, how can I find out this ? is their a PDF catalogue ?

my 2nd question, how can I create a custom profile to enter in the GGsweep ?

  • Thian Siong, Choo

    Hi Jon and everyone,

I have an issue creating a Revit window on a Revit wall with the Geometry Gym plugin. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Hope you can advice. Attached is the GH file.

In addition, it would be wonderful if you can provide an example of how to create adaptive components with the GeomGymRvt components. I have looked at the existing examples on Github but could not find an example with adaptive components.

    Hope to hear from you.

    thank you and best regards

    Siong

    GG_RevitWindowAndWall.gh

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi Siong,

Can you describe the issue you see with windows?  I tested your file and it seemed to work ok for me. Please start a topic (or add to an existing) in the discussions rather than comment.  http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/geometrygym/forum?groupUrl=geome...

There is an adaptive component example if you browse here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xcyx6kec0yu3rrl/AAAag4-qOLkQSnbIzoa3VHa1... and then into sub folders Samples, BIM, GHtoRevit, adaptive components

  • MojaPana

Does GeometryGym work with Rhino 6 ?

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi MojaPana,

Yes, I support Rhino 6 and Rhino 5.  I'm still building the installers for v6, if you message me with which ones you want I will send you links.  I'll update the downloads page ASAP.

    Cheers,

    Jon

  • Lucy Stephenson

    Hi Jon,

Thanks so much for the plugin - it's great! I was wondering if there is a simple way of defining preferences using grasshopper - from what I understand GSA picks up the preferences it can Rhino, but I'm wanting to make my tolerances very small and for GSA to remember that as I'm using my tool iteratively (is that a word?).

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Jon, is there a way to create grids with ggETABS?

  • Jon Mirtschin

Unfortunately I believe the ETABS api has no provision for creating grids.

  • mojtaba zareie

    hi

is there any way to bring karamba models to sap2000

I'm using Rhino 6 and the new version of karamba .

  • Jon Mirtschin

    Hi Mojtaba,

Yes, we support Rhino5 and Rhino6 and all builds going forward will by default support Karamba 1.3.1 as it's now official.  I can still support Karamba 1.2.xx on demand, and if you're already using nightly builds such as 1.3.2 contact me as this requires a specific build.

  • Tina Irvine

    Hi,

I am using Geometry Gym to create elements and assign section properties to take into GSA.

I want to change the insertion point of the profile to "top left", rather than the default setting, "middle". I am trying to use the tool "ggInsertPoint" to change where the section is aligned, but without any luck.

How do I plug "ggInsertPoint" into the beam section properties?

    Thanks, Tina

    Dear Jon,

I am using ggrhinoSAP to buid my model, when I bake model to sap2000,it says  "xxx SAP2000 not installed or in unexpected location",how can I solve this problem?

    my sap2000 version:V17

Appreciate if you can help on that.

    Thanks.

  • Ming Chong

Hi, Just wondering do you have any plan to expand the functionality of GGEtabs, include components like diaphragm assignment, wind load assignment, ability to run analysis without bake and save, etc. That would be super helpful.

  • Diego Abelino

    Dear Jon,

I'm currently using Geometry Gym to create Frame elements, assign section properties and attributes to take into Etabs18.

the problem, that I'm facing is that the frame attribute "name" in the component "ggETABSFrameAtts" get not exported to Etabs. I can modify all the other attributes, but when I bake the model, the name of the Frame elements keep defined by default and not like I had defined previously with the component. Do you have any advice to solve this issue?

    Thanks,

    Diego

  • nathanluke5

Hi Diego, try updating your Etabs Plug-in. If it doesn't fix your issue please contact support@geometrygym.com and we will gladly help you with fixing the issue.

  • Lincoln

    Dear all,

i am trying to build up a RHS with different flange thickness and web thickness. (like 400x300x8x15) But the BullAnt only can create RHS with same flange and web thickness. Can anyone know how to create such section? Many thanks!

  • Arina

As far as I know, we can't customise a section to such extent in GG.

If GG happens to look into this issue, can you please look into

    1. the customisation of a section tapered along length as well.

    2. update the ggcatalogueprofile to incorporate the British Steel and EN10210/EN10219.

    Thanks.

  • nathanluke5

Hi Lincoln, No you cannot create such a section in BullAnt currently. You could use ggRhinoIFC to create a compounded section. Is it for structural analysis?? We do allow creation of these sections in some of our analysis plug-ins also. If you want to discuss further please contact support@geometrygym.com or post on the new Rhino Forum.
  • nathanluke5

    Hi Arina,
Again you can create tapered sections using the ggRhinoIFC components. Can you please contact us at support@geometrygym.com outlining which cataloguesprofiles you are wanting to incorporate.
