    Dear Karamba Team,

I have a question concerning a Problem in my studies with Karamba.

I have a "voxel system" (Bounding boxes for a later on Geometry)(01_Image). I took the upper and lower edge curves from the the boxes to apply in between some optimized diagonals(optimization of the position of the points on the lines) for that I am using the Idea of Element Felting and the mapper component(+ the different stich possibilities). For one Box(02_Image) it works totally fine but by applying it on all my voxels it does not work how I imagine. So the aim for me is that every box has its own diagonals. Concerning the set up I just set up a fast Karamba model the supports and the loads will be than later on in a more detailed way defined.

Could someone help me applying the system on all voxels ?

    Thank you!

    All the Best,

    Leonie

I uploaded two scripts the one for one voxel where the system works and the "multiple Voxels" scripts where it doesnt work.

The Images should show the one voxel and the Idea and the other image the basic voxel massing.

  • Karamba3D

    Dear Leonie,

the problem in your definition with multiple voxels is, that you provide one mapping only. This means that all upper and lower voxel boundaries are handled like one upper or lower girder of a truss. Due to this there are voxels with no connections at all (see attached definition 180531_stitchedsystem_multipleVoxels_LE_CP.gh) which cause rigid body modes. In order to solve the problem reduce its complexity and start with two voxels only.

Please open a new discussion on the subject since it is easier to follow and find for others as compared to a comment on the comment wall.

    Clemens

    Hello Karamba team!!!

How could I perform the following load combinations in karamba?

    Thank you!

  • Márcio Sartorelli

    Dear Jhoseph,

In these situations I usually generate loadcases for each type of Load, as Karamba analysis is linear is not a problem to magnify the design loads after the analysis.

To test diverse load combinations I generate scripts that take the caractheristic values from the analysis and returns all the design combinations. My undergraduation thesis is the creations of plugins that apply Eurocode 5 for verification of timber structures and i'm using this a lot, please fell free to contact me for further explanation.

    Cheers.

  • Kudrah Kas

    Hello,

i seem to have a problem with my beam view not working and i just cant seem to understand why. Your help will be much appreciated. Also is there a way of how i can reduce the number of the yellow lines representing the mesh load so that they don't seem so dense for visual appeal? Basically, i need to reduce them and space them and possibly increase the arrow size showing the direction of the mesh load.

    Thank you

  • Matthew Tam

    Hi Kudrah,

i see that you are working with millimeters in your file. One thing is that Karamba interprets all units in meters. Therefore if you input geometry that is in your model 4000mm, it will interpret this as 4000m. This can be one issue causing the load densities. You can also increase the Length Segments slider in the Render Settings tab of the Model View to reduce the number of visible loads in the Model View.

    best, Matthew

    Hey there,
I am trying to get familiar with the cross section optimization of bridges, but when I want to open the example from the Karamba website I got an error:

Component Octopus {f0913905-0d71-4c22-b63d-60d6e6cf4cf6} failed to deserialize itself: Die Datei oder Assembly "HelixToolkit.Wpf, Version=2013.1.10.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=52aa3500039caf0d" oder eine Abhängigkeit davon wurde nicht gefunden. Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.

    What am I doing wrong?
Did I open it with the wrong version of Octupus?

    Thanks a lot,

    Hi, Karamba,

I purchased a student license a few hours ago, I'm aware that it might take 2 days for you to handle the process, but I have an assignment due next Monday, can you help me accelerate my request please? I'm really in a hurry.

The machine ID and payment credential were send to info@karamba3d.com.

    Thank you so much!

  • Karamba3D

    Dear Jhoseph=),

could you please add a new discussion on the topic below? The comment wall is not a good medium for technical discussions.

A quick question: Now that Rhino 6 WIP for Mac is released, will there be a Karamba Version for Mac ?

    Thank you, best wishes,

    Rudi

  • Karamba3D

Yes, there will be a Karamba3D version for Mac.

We will be hosting a Karamba3d workshop in Vienna from November 28-30. Its a great way to start to develop more advanced skills in optimization processes, programming and structural analysis.

Registration and further information can be found at https://www.karamba3d.com/workshops/.

  • Jakub Czajczynski

    Dear Karamba Team,

I love that you put examples on your website but unfortunately, some of them are not working anymore. For example:

    - Large Deformation of a Shell

    - Large Deformation of a Triangular Grid

I'm using the student version of Karamba 1.3.1. Please let me know what can cause the problem.

  • Garikundesu

    Hi,

On the 30th of August 2018, a member of Karamba (Clemens) replied that there will be a Mac version. Any information on the ongoing development or a release date anytime soon ?

The latest WIP of Rhino 6 Mac are more and more stable as long as the built in grasshopper are throwing less and less exceptions.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Karamba3D

    Hi,

there is no fixed date yet. Karamba3D basically runs on the Mac, the main issue is the installation procedure.

  • Wilinton Felipe Colunche Núñez

Hi, Why do I get this error when I open Grasshopper? ... I am new to this and would like you to help me ... Thank you.

  • Wilinton Felipe Colunche Núñez

I am new to this and would like you to help me ... Thank you.

  • Karamba3D

    Hi Wilinton,

you have to update your Rhino in order to run the latest version of Karamba. Otherwise you can use a previous installation of Karamba.

  • X.Arthur.Ma

    Hi,

I have a question on the shell analysis.

For shells, is the analysis mesh independent?

Same settings except for the mesh topology, but the result is so different.

  • Marco Pellegrino

Arthur. It shouldn’t have that big difference. Could you share your file? Have you check the global reaction ? Are they the same?
  • Rafael Pastrana

Could it be a render scale / visualization issue? @Arthur

  • Wilinton Felipe Colunche Núñez

Hi all Is it possible to create other cross sections? And if that is possible, how can I do that ?, some reference (book, chapter, ....) Thank you

    Hello,

I am working on branching column fabric formwork system and I have 2 doubts:

    1) how can I take the kangaroo solid concrete element to karamba analysis for stress

    2) how can I module the branching column line element path in karamba according to the given load

My aim is to optimise the fabric formed vertical system in-terms of reducing the stress and volume and form-finding of this system to the given load and support conditions

  • jiaxing

dear Clemens and Robert, miss you two so much, It's me Lu

So further I go in Beijing with the ability taking your two great help  in Vienna

May I ask a little thing, the 4 BESO  in karamba rhino6 testExamble is not work, is there anyway to get those download to see how the example wors?

  • Karamba3D

    Hi Lu,

I will take a look at it. Best C.

  • Wilinton Felipe Colunche Núñez

Hi all. I am modeling a metal cover, but I have designed it separately (beams and belts separately); I've done that because I designed all the coverage together and then I designed it in the sap or etabs program and compared the results and they were very different (I did not have this design ordered, but I did it in a quick way to check, so I did not I upload said file).

My question is how can I get equal results in both grasshopper (karamba) and in Sap or Etabs; what conditions should I take into account to model the entire coverage and what should be considered in the beam-belt nodes (intersection node)?.
IMetal%20Coverage.gh upload my file in grasshopper where I design beam and strap separately, but the visualization is of all coverage. I hope you can help me. Thank you.

  • Karamba3D

Hi Wilinton, could you please open a new discussion for the topic? There it would be easier to communicate.
You definition is quite large and complex. For debugging try the divide and conquer method: Split up the definition into meaningful parts and test the parts individually.

    Best,

    Clemens

I have updated to Rhino 6.14.19118.. Before this i used karamba3d 1.2.2 in a early version of rhino6. My question is if it is possible to update my student license from Karamba3d 1.2.2 to 1.3.1? the main reason for this is because i want to check KarambaIDEA plugin and it is only available for Karamba 1.3.1

    Thank you in advance!

  • Karamba3D

All Karamba3D licenses issued so far work for Karmba3D 1.3.1.

  • Karamba3D

A new scripting guide with examples for Karamba 1.3.2 can be downloaded from https://www.karamba3d.com/download/#manual.

I am getting an error when trying to open a grasshopper file with kangaroo and karamba components. I am new to both grasshopper and karamba and was wondering how to better understand the error message and where I can download or access the correct plugins.

So far I am not able to find the versions of the plugins mentioned in either of the error boxes.

    Thank you!

    Hi Xavier,

you need to update your Rhino to the latest release in order to run Karamba. The latest Karamba release can also be found on our website.

  • xiufeng li

    whats wrong with it

  • Karamba3D

Dear xiufeng li, when internalizing structural objects in one version of Karamba3D it is sadly not possible to guarantee that they can be deserialized with another version of Karamba3D. I think this is what causes the problem here.

    Best,

    Clemens

  • riccardo foschi

Another question: I'm trying to reproduce the behaviour of these two structures that I observed in fusion 360 only using Karamba.

As you can see from the images the structure on the left have much less deformation, in Karamba they are almost the same what is happening here? The KAramba code is so much different from the fusion 360 one?

  • Karamba3D

Hi Riccardo, there seems to be an issue with you definition as it turns orange. Also, may it be that your mesh is too coarse?

  • riccardo foschi

It turns orange because I set one point as support two times (it's part of two groups of points one group fixes the Z movement the other one fixes every movement), but it shouldn't be a problem right? at least the dialog box says so.

Anyway the problem is similar if I decimate the mesh, I think it might be a problem of how do karamba calculate the thickness of the structure, in fusion I modelled the thickness myself in Karamba I didn't maybe it's that? however I think in fusion when he calculate the mesh he also adds inside edges to keep the two layers together when deforming, in karamba I don't think it does it am I wrong?

  • Karamba3D

Hi, I am moving all discussion to the user problems page as the parallel discussion is cumbersome. https://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/karamba3d/forum/topics/karamba-...

  • riccardo foschi

right sorry for that, and thanks

  • jiaxing

hi, clements,  i read karamba manual again,  during that, the eigenmode and eigenvalues still troubles me to understand,  it seems to test vabration and get eigenvalues by eigenmode.

what is the funcion of eigenmode, and what does the eigenvalue mean?

stability?  do the eigenvalues has standard to show whether it is safe or not?

sorry,  it seems a basic structure knowledges,

  • Karamba3D

    Hi, Jiaxing,
the eigenmodes and eigenvalues result from the solution of the eigenvalue problem (see e.g. here) of the stiffnessmatrix S. The eigenmodes show in ascending order those deformation modes which the structure can take on most easily. The eigenvalues are the ratio between the internal forces and the corresponding eigenmode displacements.
The eigenvalues and eigenshapes as calculated in Karamba3D have nothing to do with stability or vibrations. For the buckling modes one has to solve the general eigenvalue problem which involves the stiffness matrix and the geometric stiffness matrix. For the vibtration modes it's the general eigenvalue problem involving the resultant stiffness and mass matrix.

  • jiaxing

hi, clements, thank you very much for your answer.

I learn this case about mesh load  and have 3 questions

    1. there are meshs and beam, but the mesh do not have material , only have load,  what is that?

    2. the mesh is not attached to beam, how to understand it?

in my understand the case is , for examble, mesh is floor , have dead load or live load, then under floor is attached beam,  this floor and beam should have intersect part, then the load will transfer to the beam.   but here, they are seperate.

3, the mesh load is z-direction, but it turns a x-direction affect on beam, why

pls help,  i know you help alot already

keep safe from virus  hope vienna is ok

    jiaxing lu

  • jiaxing

another questions about the initial strain load,  from the cases provide, for example, the beam with initial strain load  do not have shear force and bending monent. in my understand , pure axis force only  is much more safe then  shear force, bending moment, and axis force together(hope my understand is right)

not sure my understanding is right:  this initial load is the results of axis-force we want it inside and a load affect.

my question is, 1. in reality projects  where does this load come from? it is the results of load we want. then how to add this on?

    2. if we can use initial strain load  to replace other loads, then how to transfer other loads with initial load. for example  the beam under gravity become an arch, but we want a pure axis force arch, no shear force,  then how to transfer gravity G=10 equals  initial strain load?

3 is there any case of projects use initial strain load help me understand?

    Hey,

I'm trying to export karamba model to SAP but am aving some difficulties and have this error.

I've installed the ggkaramba from package manager. tried with all of them(karamba, ggSAP, ggkaramba) in older version still doesn't work. would much appreciate the help.

I can't see the ggSAP in karamba see below.

But it's visible in gg plugin,
