I have used grasshopper to create a bunch of shapes that will be lasercut. Is there a way to create text in Grasshopper than I can project onto the surface so when I back it into rhino the text will be part of the shape?? Any ideas?
You could create your text in Rhino using the command "text object" either as curves, surfaces or solids then reference those as breps or curves in GH, then boolean union to your shapes.
Or if you just want labeling use the text tag component found in Vector/Point, Text tag. You can also plugin a panel into Text tag found under params too maybe organize lists and associate them with points within shapes. Lastly if you bake a text tag from GH it becomes a text dot in rhino which if you want text you must _convertdots then select text option at the command line and if you want curves or surfaces you must _explode the text.
did you take a look at FabTools? They're free and you can just drag the components onto the gh window and its ready to use.
You can make 3D Text explode them to Curve contours, or make single line text (perfect for engraving with laser) and project them to the surface. With the unroll component you can then unroll the pieces.
But you can also create TextDots and work like Roland explained.
The cool thing is, you can do everything in GH and bake all things on different layers, with different colors and set the groups within GH.
