Creating pulsating curves

Hello,

I need help with creating pulsating curves like this:

which would eventually become something like this

I tried hard to attempt this but I just don't know where to start with parametricism.
Basically I have four variables of a simple data set about Nobel Laureates of a particular university: the year, name letter, type of affiliation, and category.If this doesn't work what kind of data would I need?

    This is my attempt. I basically divided lines along two parallel lines but I don't know how to control in the z direction with data.
