Undulating Canopy Munich

Realized already at the end of last year, the tram and bus shelter is located at the "Münchner Freiheit", Munich. Based on the successful competition entry by OX2 Architekten, Aachen, initially designed as a fibre composite construction, RPM Architekten, Munich were commissioned to realize the project in a material alternative. Diverse building components of the steel construction were generated via Grasshopper.

In the following are several results of the GH applications starting from the various ribs definitions to the seating furniture as the last piece installed on construction site.

Really nice project. Especially the columns are well defined and executed. Unfortunately that does not count for the ceiling surfaces - did you originally wanted to have a continuously smooth finish there?

btw, it was nice meeting you in Vienna,

Thanks everybody. We definitely wanted to have a continuos surface and with a 1:1 mock-up we could see that it is possible to build such a surface. Actually it is a 10mm thick structural plate, there's no additional covering. The main reason why the final result is not as smooth as wished is that the short time frame of 8 months for prefabrication and assembly was definitely too short.
