Backfeeding Parametric Generation... without a Rhino geometry

My first experiments began using grasshopper without references to Rhino geometry because a year ago I didn't have a hundred bucks to buy Rhino so I didn't want to use up the 25 saves on a Grasshopper model, After all Rhino does have a lot of geometry laid out within the "blank" document, it basically describes 3D space using a Cartesian Coordinate System right? Well, if that is true, than you can exploit it!

A year later and I've purchased Rhino, which is wonderful, but I've continued to practice creating models in Grasshopper without referenced geometry other than the coordinate system.

First I tried the 'Shift' Tutorial and was able to make a quite different form than was displayed but it was all the same, just added stuff onto the basic solution.

Now I am interested in Diagrids, the surface on 30 St. Mary's Axe, AKA the erotic gherkin in London. Diagrids are much more interesting to me than the same old, same old waffle grid. The grid is beautiful in it's own right, but its not compelling me to build any real things out of it, they are simply inefficient. One of the major hurdles to overcome is to make a structure that would make sense to the carpenter side of me (I am one.) Now we all know that grasshopper and pipes get along quite well, but nobody but a plumber builds things out of pipes, and he's more interested in solving different problems than an architecture student. Diamond Five which uses a VB script that is very nice attempts to address a solution that might just work.

    Hi Josh,

Where did you buy Rhino? It seems that you have a pirated version, as "Rhino Corporate" doesn't exist as a type of license.

I purchased it from 710 Bookstore in Carbondale, Illinois. The odd thing is I had the '25 save' version on my system, when I upgraded to the student version, it asked to overwrite the file. Okay fine, it overwrote the file and then basically stopped working completely. I had to download the thing and re-rewrite it using the purchased key or whatever it uses when I reinstalled, now it works. That [Corporate] thing is an artifact from the download to re-write the file for the second time, I have no idea what it is and I have no idea why it didn't simply work when I rewrote the file from the Purchased software. Nor do I care, I have the purchased student software registered with McNeel, the [Corporate] thing doesn't bug me, if you want more information about my system or whatever to debug the installation process let me know, honestly I was annoyed I had to go to such lengths to get it to run after spending $100 on a student copy.

    Hi Josh,

It seems that what you had previously installed is a pirated license and not an Eval. The Eval license clearly says "Evaluation".

To install your educational license properly, I sugges you the following:

    - uninstall your pirated version
    - uninstall the Eval version in case you also installed it
    - delete the following registry entries:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\McNeel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McNeel
    - install Rhino educational from the original Cd and with your purcahsed Cd-Key
    - install the latest service release from http://www.rhino3d.com/sr
