algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Use pachyderm for street noise analysis and optimization of planning and building geometry solutions?

Hi -

Is Pachyderm only for interior acoustic analysis or can I use it to test impacts of street noise? I am trying to position and shape 3 story residential buildings, with possible insertion of sound barrier walls or berms and enhanced wall insulation and reduced window sizes, to reduce negative acoustic impacts from a nearby busy street (almost a freeway). Looking for a tool to analyze benefits of different design solutions with regard to exterior noise sources. Any suggestions or sample cases would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

Pachyderm can do both - but within limitations:

Pachyderm has line-source designations that allow you to get the right power level based on vehicles types on a road - an outdoor algorithm...

However, I never added screen algorithms for barrier attenuation, meaning that barriers will be a problem.

Finally, you wouldn't use these tools to test sound isolation of a partition from outside to inside. It isn't needed. You can do that calculation fairly simply using a spreadsheet.

Hope this helps.

Hi Arthur,

I have not been able to find any examples or tutorials to use Pachiderm to make this type of outdoors simulations of traffic noise. Do you have any good example?

Alejandro

HI arthur, I'm interested in this method, where can I find such a spreadsheet for testing sound isolation but from inside to outside? thank you!

Ira

I'm also interested in how to use the Line_Source in Pachyderm. It seems straightforward but after specifying the traffic and so on and selecting the curve, Rhino crashes. when I try to do a Particle Visualisation.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

I might have used to many cars and trucks (1000 per hour as it is a highly used road). After lowering it to 10 it didn't crash.

Is it possible to get a particle visualisation from the line source? What I'm trying to achieve is a graphical representation of how the traffic noise is being blocked by the high houses but enters into the small alleys that connect the front to the backside of the houses.

Hi,
I've never tried with the particle animations, And so I guess it probably isn't handled.

Regarding crashing, it should be able to handle that many vehicles easily, but maybe you arrived at a combination with an unstable result. Can you please send me your model that crashes, and the number of each vehicle that you entered?

Arthur
Those are fine tools, but Pachyderm also has algorithms for outdoor noise. Also, don't buy your dissertation, folks. Not only is it unethical, you won't be fooling anyone.

Another fine example of GPT giving us the wrong answers, folks... In multiple ways.
