Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I am trying to define a model for a monopole base structure as shell elements in Karamba. I tried to use the Mesh Breps component but it complains about the size of the meshes are too small. It is due to the anchor bolts holes. Those are with 28mm as diameter.

So now I went back to Grasshopper components for meshing. But here I struggle to "take out" the holes from the bigger flange mesh. I guess as a sfirst step the mesh edges should meet, which is not the case yet.

What can be a good approach here to model the base flange with the holes? Can I manage this somehow in Karamba or should I approach Grasshopper then make shells from meshes.

Thank you

If you aim for a proper quad mesh the answer is not very trivial but propably starting with a coarse mesh and start subdiving could give you close enough reults. If triangulated mesh is not an issue then try MeshMachine from Kangaroo. It will work and you can constrol the quality of your mesh. I would do this first and then mesh to shell in Karamba as a final step!

Thanks. I'll go to try the MeshMachine (I did not used yet), the triangulated mesh is fine for this.

Anastasios, it seems the MeshMachine went out from the feature list of Kangaroo, ...I downloaded the latest version (242) but it doesn't include it. ...do you have an idea what can be the descendant? Thx
