Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi again,

Here's my other newbie question for Gismo: I'd like students to be able to produce comparative analysis in New York City and the surrounding region using GIS and other map data. GISMO is working well for the "base layer" of buildings and roads (haven't done parks or trees yet). I'd like to be layer on map data from open sources like this: Bytes of the Big Apple: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/open-data.page

or from https://giswww.westchestergov.com/

Can Gismo do that? Or is OSM its only available data source? If so, what other GH plugins should I be looking at? I've installed Mosquito but it also seems to be OSM integrated only. Next up are Meerkat, Elk and @it. Any guidance is appreciated highly.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh,

Yes, Gismo can map external data.
In order to import this data, you can use some other Excel reader plugins (like Bumblebee), or python component in the .gh file below.

I dowloaded PLUTO .csv from this webpage (the first top download on that page):

https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/open-data/dwn-pluto-ma...

The issue is that downloaded 'pluto_20v2.csv' file is enormous - 290MB.

I tried to delete about 95% of it, and approximately use only the first 5%.

I hope the definition provides some insight.
If not, let us know.

I couldn't upload the files for some reason. They are here:
