Wrapping a hex grid [or any geometric pattern] to a cube [and further 3d geometries

So im working on a definition that will allow you to wrap a 2d gepmetric pattern to a 3d object, in this case as a starting point im trying to accuratly wrap a hexagonal grid to a cube. the issue is that i need it to wrap accuratly, meaning that as the faces fold to become a different side of the cube, i need the hexs to fold and wrap around those edges so the pattern is continuous. the way ive been trying to go about it is to try and figure our a simple equation that takes into account the lengths of the surfaces in the u+v and as well as the radius of the hex and write a simple function that will allow either the number of cells and/or radius of cells to be determined based on the givin width and length of the srf, so that the hexs will wrap aroudn the edges or the pattern is constrained within the edges so the edges of the pattern on each surf flow to eathother.
