Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

 hiHello,

Just started with Grasshopper so everything is new for me.

I just want to make a script that I could create windows for houses easily.

So basically sweep rail command + extrude (glass).

I would like to pickup some rhino lines from the window hole in a wall and then have a script that would sweep that rail with the frame shape I have created.

That shape would be with values that can be modified in GH.

At the end if it would be possible to create a 10mmthick glass in the frame automatically.

Is this possible? :)

Thanks!

Yes, this is possible.

Thanks. :)

Can you help me a little bit how to even start?

This is an excellent project for a beginner.  You start, we'll watch.

  1. Assuming you already have a frame cross-section (drawn in Rhino), can you sweep it around a rectangle?
  2. Can you determine where the glass fits in that frame, create a surface there and extrude it to create the glass?
  3. Can you make an interactive "widget" to create a frame cross-section?
  4. Do you know how to "pickup some rhino lines from the window hole in a wall"?
  5. Can you deal with reversing the inside/outside "direction" of the window hole?

Well...

1.No - "Sweep could not be created" :)

Seriously?  Did you read the forum guidelines?  Where's your code?  What are the rail and section inputs for your 'Sweep'?  It's more work to make screen snapshots meaningful (all inputs visible and clear) but considered good practice here.

This is very basic stuff.  Your GH must clearly define a rail (or two) and a section (or list of sections).  The sections must be in sequence from the start to the end of the rail - direction matters!

Try harder, the information to do this is widely available.  Experiments to discover it take about as much time as it did for me to type this.

I'll say this much too; my idea of a section for your rail was 90 degrees to yours, a perimeter facade on the exterior surface of the building instead of continuous from inside to out.  Separate sections for inside and outside, which is common in, you know, the "real world".

As depicted in your image, the rail appears to be crushing the section in the corners?

So... maybe the innermost rectangle is best for the rail?

Well... some progress...

I tried with half of the rectangle and then it worked.

Red rectangle in the R and Profile curves in the S.

But why cant it do closed 360?

Rhino can do full 360 with "sweep rail" but GH can´t?

But I think I must draw the frame profile inside GH somehow...?

Dont mind about the details. I will add more details later when/if I can understand the logic of this software.( Outside frame, inside frame, glass,

Can you recommend a tutorial with this kind of basic sweep/extrude features?

Just to clarify:

-I want to create simple Window Generator script.

(To make ArchViz workflow faster)

-Pick the edge lines from the window hole and press enter. (Or Bake?)

I found a "Stair generator" that can do stairs with just picking one Rhino line. Thats what I am looking for but to make windows.
