algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi guys!

Here is a question from a beginner..... :)

I have a surface and I have another which is the same like the first, just smaller. I would like to place the second one on the middle of the first. They are pieces of a sphere.

I tried it with the Area and with the evaluate surface to make it but I couldnt make it.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks!

Hi Henriett,

The chances are that you are using trimmed sections of the original surfaces so that any UV position will apply to the original surface and not the new trimmed one.

The Area component produces the Centroid which is not the same as the center of the surface. For a non-planar surface the centroid will (most likely) not be on the surface.

There is an added level of complexity with taking sub-surfaces from a sphere, namely you can trim it with the seam passing through the whole or part of your sub-surface causing you to effectively have two separate surfaces or a single surface with a split partly in it.

There is no tool directly that will return your intended location. I will have a think about a method and get back to you.

I should have said referencing trimmed sub-surfaces from a sphere

As they are based on sphere it is safe to use [Surface CP]

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! But unfortunately it didnt work in my situtation. I had to solve it on another way.
Thanks :)
