Square Scissor System

Attached are failed attempts at scripting this geometry. I am new to grasshopper- any advice or help would be very much appreciated. I am trying to create a similar effect to the video posted, except square. the Image below is what I want to create, and be able to manipulate on the Z axis as well. If someone has suggestions or advice I would be most grateful.

Thank you! This is almost exactly what I'm trying to do! I've been going through your script- it's so clean, I've got a lot to learn. If I'm trying to move this system along an uneven z plane- is it best to bake the frame out and then project to surface? Or assign a plane to the script and alter it in Rhino?
