Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi! I'm start learning GH and have simple task to solve for start

I need to make slots for plywood connections like this:

I'm engineer, not programmer, so i hard to realize it in algorytms. Can someone help me with this?

I need use edge or separate curve as input. Other inputs are material thickness, tooth depth and width. GH should get plane direction, create curves or rectangles for both sides tooth, then create boolean united curve or solid.

My next task will be puzzle lock, so if possible to use separate open plain curves for this tooth here, it's will be great.

Thanks for reply.

You dont need any hard algorithms for what you are trying to do. As always in Grasshopper there are so many ways of getting there.

Just build it up how you would draw it - start in 2D then to 3D - first points, then lines (use those for cutting), then extrude and put into place in 3D for visualisation.

Give it a go and once you get stuck, we will help out. In the end engineering and programming is the same kind of problem-solving process.

Hi.

This definion is an example of comb joint panel drawing and I modified it a bit to 3D for you.

Have a look at the attached. Best.

Thank you very much, Kim!

It's not exact what i need because that planes is only sqare form. I need to use my own created planes as input.

But this is enouth to start working with GH for me.

Thanks again.
