algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I'm using rhinovault to create a three-legged simple canopy structure, as in the rhinovault example pictures.. that kind of style, but really the most basic shape of this kind...

I started from a triangle, and reached a point where I have the lines in 2D for the leg positions and the arcs between them as in the first image.

I later thought it might be cleaner to segment the arches as the figure in the second image.

The problem is that to "Generate from Diagram" in the toolbar, you cannot use trimmed surfaces. I usually use the rhino command "surface from 3 or 4 corner points" to create the rectangles to use in rhinovault, but in this specific case the middle triangle is left (see image 3), which, when created with that command, gives the isolines all going into THE SAME corner...

This creates some problems later on due to the fact that rhinovault creates the initial mesh accordingly...

When I change the triangle to be created in some other surface command, such as "Surface from planar curves", then rhinovault says "cannot use trimmed surfaces"...

How can I solve this? Meaning, have parallel isolines in the triangle while still using rhinovault without error... ?

Hi

just try to use 4-sided surfaces where possible and manually design (draw) the rest. If you draw edges manually, make to do this on the "01_FormEdges" Layer. You can only use simple lines (no polylines), which are properly connected to all its neighbors. Check the attached image, which illustrates the procedure described. Hope that helps.

Hello, 

I have a question about using Rhinovault to create a surface similar to what was mentioned in the original question, but with 4 legs instead, basic too. Forgive me if this is a silly question, but after you are done with the horizontal and vertical equilibrium tools, then you end up with a wireframe structure. How do you convert that to a surface to further process and fabricate? I have been struggling with it and still not able to figure it out. I would REALLY appreciate help and would be very grateful!!!

A bit late but: in the rV Settings, set the "Show Mesh" to 1. It is a Mesh not a surface though.
