algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey all -
I'm working to try and create a script for what will be wooden slats that peel parallel to a surface away from selected points (windows) on a building facade.
As I've got so far, I'm only capable of doing this by creating a grid from the horizontal lines (the slats) and vertical lines (supports). I've been able to create the horizontal contour lines along my geometry, and the vertical lines as well. The hope is that I can then move the horizontals (u) using paneling tool's ptPointAtts.
However, my issue comes from putting these into Paneling Tool's grid from intersecting lines, which seems to arise from a problem of converting 'curves' into 'lines' - a distinction I wasn't sure existed/am not sure how to deal with from here.
Even when I baked the geometry and used a line component to input these into the grid from intersecting lines, the resulting grid did not display on the surface, or anywhere in the model from where I could tell.
Attached are the files I have so far - the 3D model, and the script of the part previously discussed located at the origin of the grasshopper workspace, as well as some edited scripts I've been able to find on here that have to do with grid alterations from points or other inputs, and moving a brep along a curve (or the grid I've created).
I'm feeling wicked confused about this whole thing, and am unsure if the way I am attempting is the best. Is there is an easier way to move horizontal lines parallel to a surface from repelling points other than to try and make a grid with them? Is there a step throughout this that I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you very much in advance.
