Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I am working on geodesic curves on a brep and use the geodesic curve component. I input two points on the brep and create geodesic curves. However, it does work sometimes, but at some of the places "funny" things occur which there is a spring-like formation at the ends.

I am thinking if it is the problem with the input points being the edge points of the brep to cause the problem.

I have uploaded the file and hope that someone could help me figure it out. Thanks.

Cheers,

Kenneth

This might be related to the issues reported here (i.e. Rhino 4 and the Geodesic component): http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/how-to-draw-crvonsrf?xg_s...

Oh dear. I did not know that before. Thanks for the help.

By the way, I solved the problem in Rhino 4 by not getting the edge points. Thanks.

Nice, clever workaround. It just tried out your files in Rhino 5 and they work fine there, so I guess it was the reported bug..

Kenneth,

I know it has been over a year since this post, but I am wondering if you can explain how you made your surface in Rhino that you reference in your GH file.  I was surprised by the direction of the isocurves and the fact that it was still a untrimmed surface.

It doesn't have much to do with your gh question, but I am hoping you can give me some tips, as I often need to work with a untrimmed surface for certain GH workflows.

Thanks for any input.

Ab,

The surface is made through kangaroo. The workaround of nurbs inside kangaroo is like this:

curve-> mesh UV-> kangaroo-> surface from pts-> nurbs

This workflow allows you to obtain nurbs geometry from kangaroo and produce a surface like that.

Another possible way is I think you may use the ShrinkTrim component from the plugin Somnium, such that you can always return a trimmed surface to an untrimmed one.

Great...

I will look into both options you give.

Thanks for the quick reply and helpful information.
