Picking points requires curve to reference...

Hello all-

I add a pt element to my grasshopper space, and then ask to set one point from its menu. Now when I go to the Rhino window it wants me to select "Point on curve to reference (Type=Curve Method=Ratio)"... It won't allow me to pick any points that are in free space. I don't have anything selected in Rhino prior to this.

Is there a way to free this up?
