Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everyone,

Im new in grasshopper. Im working at the moment with a rectangular grid made of curves which I draw in Rhino (all of the cells have for edges).

Afterwards I created in grasshopper a definition for finding the middle points of each cell of the grid and connect them in order to create a secondary grid from the initial one that i was working with. (Following the scheme attached)

Right now I have the cells and sub-cells (Plan attached)and I need to identify the neighbors of this cells in four directions.

Please could you give me any suggestion?

I would really appreciate it :)

Thanks, Maria

A sketch of what I need to do!

Are you working with meshes or surfaces / breps?

Check out mesh+ toolbar and brep topology components

oh, just looked at your screenshot, you should also look at the paneling tools toolbar

Im working with surfaces at the moment. I tried yesterday with topology components but i dont understand how is the procedure in order to be able to select only the cells that surround my initial cell to work inside them. Do you have any suggestion? This is what I tried to do yesterday with Brep Topology.

Hi Maria

I have exactly what you need ... but IS NOT suitable for a novice (it's carried over solely via code): it works against any collection of Curves (or optional Lines) and makes ... well ... anything imaginable (regions, polylines, breps, connectivity trees etc etc).

Notify if you need such a freaky thing.

In the mean time with regard connectivity trees (mysterious/ominous things for sure, he he) see this attached:

The first part is freaky: don't bother how it works > just use it as a "component".

The second part explains(*) to novices what connectivity trees are using "standard" GH native components.

(*) hopefully

Hi Maria,

If I hear 'Neighbourhood' I always think about Cellular Automate. So, u may want to look at this:
Cellular Automate for Grasshopper

If u want to go the topology-way of computing u may want to look at this:
QuadEdgeDataStructure
(new version is going to be released soon with major changes/improvements.
There is going to be a component to create from PolylineCells too)

OR
SpiderWeb
