# normals and pseudo-normals

Hi. I don't know if I have created 'pseudo-normals' with the attached definition. My aim was to create a kind of extruded waffle off of a multi-curved surface. I initially found that the extrusions conformed to multiple and divergent normals which, upon reflection, was appropriate. Because I wanted the extrusions to be 'seamless' I created a set of corner points (from only one set of normals) that I swapped in to replace the rectangular extrusions by replacing them with surface from four points. I'm not sure if this created pseudo-normals for the new waffle. Please see attached image and gh definition. Was there an easier way to do this? This file is an abbreviation of an larger definition.

Hi Hyungsoo. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. As you may recall, my original post was about normals, though I am indeed appreciative of the very efficient solution for developing the waffle structure you posted, I was more curious about the nature of trying to work with normals. To be honest I`m not sure why there is not a component that exposes for normals in a straight-forward way, nor why it seems to be so difficult to work with uv data, considering that examining a surface for a normal at any given uv coordinate is probably a pretty common desire.  The best I have been able to do is to obliquely combine the normal output of the Surface Divide component with the vector component and then to develop curves based on vectors (for this please see attached file NNorm_2). I still have no idea how to make use of the uv output of the Surface Divide component (or in other components if it is made available).

In my first post I was trying to figure out if I was generating 'pseudo-normals' because I was developing relationships using offset and projection, though now I don't think I was but I'm still not certain if I have found the best way to work with normmals. If you could look at the file let me know what you think that would be great.

As you may already know, one thing you should keep that in mind is that uv data is just local coordinate system of a surface.

You can choose an arbitrary point by reparameterizing your surface and reset your surface domain  0 to 1.
