Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Some of you asked me how I generated this form:

I first generated these curves with Daniel Pikers 'Diffusion Limited Aggregation' (http://www.grasshopper3d.com/profiles/blogs/diffusion-limited-aggre...)

Then made a pipe. And here is the problem: I tried to SUnion the pipes but the SUnion does not seem to work properly so I made it by 'hand'. Has anyone an idea how to fix or work around the SUnion problem?

In the last step I connected the solid to Jon Mirtschins StructDrawRhino for Grasshopper and created a minimal surface. (http://www.grasshopper3d.com/profiles/blogs/geometry-gym-plugins). You have to be patient the last step takes for ever to generate... but it will show up eventually.

Thanks for sharing your process.

I will look to make some improvements to hopefully speed up the solver, and allow for user control of convergence tolerance. At the moment it's dependent on the Rhino document tolerance, so if you wish to try and get a quicker, more approximate answer, you can try increasing the size of the tolerance.

Also, I added to the latest plug-in a component for resizing Mesh which is useful for using on meshes which are going to be calculated into a different form. The rhino mesher can often produce mesh arrangements which are not so suited to "analysis". It will however triangulate the mesh, also on my todo list is to allow it deal with quad faces.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Wieland,

Could you explain how you made the SUNION work, please??? I cannot make it look like this; I'm close, but it's a little crappy! Can you help me?

Thanks in advance!!!
