algorithmic modeling for Rhino

i am having some problems with Mesh Difference. i am trying to cut some holes (tower building outlines) in a mesh.


i am just trying to subtract the towers from the ground mesh (which is the delaunay mesh). but instead of cutting out the tower outlines, i end up getting the reverse. i had the same problem the other day trying to cut mesh spheres out of a mesh with thickness but after i repositioned the mesh spheres, i managed to get the holes cut out properly. this time round, i have played around with repositioning the towers but still can't get it to work. i have already turned the tower outlines into mesh and given them thickness.

i have tried flipping the mesh, can't work either. i have also tried giving the ground mesh thickness before using Mesh Difference.

 

hope someone can shed some light.

A question based on the picture:

would you not want to make the Delaney mesh thick before using it for subtraction?

 

Just a guess...

the delaunay mesh is working fine until the subtraction kicks in.

Mh, what I mean is: for the boolean subtraction, could you try using two closed meshes?

A Delaunay mesh is usually open, so it is more difficult to use it with subtraction from something closed.

it didn't work when i made the delaunay mesh into a basic mesh. but when i gave the mesh thickness and flipped it, it worked. the problem is i don't want to give it thickness at this stage, as it will mess up my geometry later on.

 

how can i subtract holes from a flat mesh without thickness?

Mesh Split is available in Grasshopper 0.8. The tricky part is then to select the part that you are interested in.
