looking to develop a pattern to recreate trimmed surface with regular division points

Hey all

I was wondering if anyone has seen something that might help jumpstart solving my problem. I want to make a parametric pattern to get points to panelize a surface that has been trimmed. I figure once you have sorted which subsurfaces fit wholly within the perimeter there must be a way to rationalize those irregular edge surfaces - they would become facetted...and that's ok...
