Labelling edges from unrolling Brep

Hey folks, 

I am sure this has been covered numerous times, but I can't find any info directly relating to it...

I've created a small setup to label edges within an unrolled brep. I'd like to label each edge so I can match the adjacent edge, so edges that would be in contact in a 3d reconstruction after laser cutting have the same number.

This would be similar to pepakura...

Sorry again, this is probably basic stuff... FWIW I have panelling tools and fabtools installed but I can't quite make the leap to the correct method.
