Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hello

first at all im from chile and my english is it not good

im an architecture student and im working with tensegrity structures, i took a definition from here http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/kangaroo/forum/topics/tensegrity... it is work but i have some issues...

image show how cables work in the end of every strut, i want to join both struts in one (i want green pipes work as one) i can do that but cables work separately, how can i make cables stick in any position of the strut?. i mean how can cables work in any point of the strut no only on the ends like now works

that is ill appreciate your help byes

hi javier,

can you upload your definition file? from the screenshot it`s hard to imagine what you want to do.

you can simple link the cables to the beams if you have a endpoint of your lines there.

best

Hola javier,

hi pb

i want make a cable work not only in the end point i mean can a cable work linked whit a strut but not joined in the end point? can a cable work join in any point of the line, and if the line move down cables follow it.

thanks

hi javier,

don`t know if i understand you right. but i think you have the following task:

points 1 and 2 are anchor points (or some part of your structure)

point 3 is your load point (or the other part of your structure)

see attached files for a simple definition in gh and kangaroo of this problem and tell me if it solves your problem.

HI!
I'm having the same problem. I want to connect my anchor points like in a reciprocal frame. But grasshopper will only conect the endpoints of lines. I can't connect them from a point on a line.

I wanted to open your file, but unfortunately I can't. It seems they were saved in Rhion5, I'm using Rhino4. Could you maybe save thems as rhiono4 files?

My Problem is the following. I need to connect point 1 to point 2. Then on the line between 1 and 2 is another point 6 beeing the endpoint of the line from 5 to 6. same for 3 and 4 having the point 2 on the line. But the connecting line should always stay straight. so it should not bend on the point inbetween. here a picture for understanding:

Hello Javier,

have a look at my website there's some videos showing how to build small models. TensegrityWiki has also a section about how to build models. I build one model that also uses joined struts .

Depending on the size you want to build, there are different options. How long are the vertical struts?

Seems like you are just experimenting with kangaroo without too much knowledge about how it actually works.

Struts and cables are actually just straight line segments that are connected at their ends. Kangaroo can only connect at those ends. I guess you are trying to make your green struts connect and stay in a straight line. You can do so by applying a bending constrain to the joint.
