Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everybody,

I'm relatively new to GH and Kangaroo; I would appreciate any help with a problem I have.

My goal is to simulate a twisting funicular arch. I've created a ribbon mesh and successfully applied a series of forces through Kangaroo, to achieve the relaxed form I am looking for.

Where I am getting stuck is simulating the lateral deformation of the arch due to the torsional forces of the twist. As is, the arch only has vertical/bending forces acting on it.

I've used the script developedby Shawn Fernandez and  David Rutten (thanks guys!) a while ago to evaluate the torsional force/vector along a neutral axis of my twisted strip. How would I translate this information into a meaningful force that would give me the deformation that I'm looking for...? Is there another way to do this?

Again, any help would be helpful... Thanks in advance.

Hi there Daniel. Did you ever manage to get anywhere with this problem?

James

Hi James,

No, I never did. I ended up faking the effect at the time but I would still be interested in finding out how to program it in GH..
