algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I'm trying to create structural jointing for a project that I'm working on.

The idea is to connect each of the 3 surfaces/polysurfaces (as I'm planning to fabricate this using MDF) using 3 notches running perpendicular to the intersection of the surfaces (the pictures attached may explain and visualise this better).

I'm having problem in trying to create the surface cut out according to the shape of notches that are going to attach those surfaces, so any help will be very much appreciated.

I'm actually worried if this kind of jointing will work at all in real construction, but I'll give it a try for now. Or has anyone ever dealt with this kind of jointing and can suggest any more promising joints?

Hi Cindy, all the surfaces in your file (well, from the hexagons) are a bit twisted (non planar), I think that may be a problem for MDF, no?

Yes, I realised that too! But I don't know why the surface is twisted as I generated it from the lunchbox hexagon panel plug-in. It might be because the overall form of my project is curved.. I only captured a small portion of it in my previous attachment. Is there a way I could fix this non-planar surface?

Maybe, if you'd upload your definition with internalised geometry maybe someone can give you a suiting answer. I once saw someone use kangaroo to get the hexagons planarized, but I couldn't repeat that then. You can try a search for planar(ize) hexagons.
