Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi

im essentially trying to create geometries which represent trees which bend as a car drives past. i have the bending movement of the 'trunk' of the trees working well however i need to find a way to connect 'branches' to it. is there any way to attach geometries straight onto existing geometries?

i hope that made sense

have a look at my algorithms attached

thanks

Do you mean like using the Group component, which groups objects together? Or like a Solid Union of the geometries?

hi thanks for the suggestions i tried those components and they didnt seem to have my desired effect... do you have any other suggestions...

i think the solid union component would work fine except one of my geometries moves toward an attractor point and i need the other one to move with it...

Can you share your Rhino file here which contains the branches? And maybe a screenshot of the problem? It is a bit hard to imagine what's going on, to suggest a solution.

ok i think i overcomplicated my description of it. what i want to do is make the shape in the Rhino file 'geometry' bend in the exact same way that the curves bend in the Rhino and Grasshopper and Rhino files called curves. i hope thats clearer.

and this is the screenshot...

Hey Chris,

The shape in the file "geometry.3dm" seems to be having some funny business going on with it, so I am not sure if I still understood you correctly (apologies).

Instead of the shape that you provided, I used a single pyramid to depict the tree's branches and leaves, and oriented this pyramid (from world xy plane) at the top of each curve, such that the axis of the pyramid is in line with the bending of the curve at that (top) point. The end result looks something like this (screenshot) when the car is driving past.

I know this might be a bit too simple, but I hope nonetheless that it helps you to figure out exactly what you want to achieve. Let me know if you need further help.

hi Sridevi... thanks for the tip i only just read this. i ended up finding a different solution. The bending curve ran through 4 points originally. So i just copied and moved these points then drew lines and lofted between these lines to create the geometries i was looking for. It took a long time but it worked!
