How to create squares without Splitting Surface based on Length

I don't know if there is a component in Gh that can divide a surface and give me iso trim surfaces or closed curves based on length. Every time I try to split the surface with the given grid of curves, it obviously crashes. Was wondering if there is any way this is possible? I can't use divide surface/isotrim currently because i need the spacing to be exact. I just need the squares as closed curves so I can offset all of them into smaller squares.

Hi David,

Your surface is planar so why not create a rectangular grid instead?

Yes, that could work as a start, but how would I account for the left over trim and get the irregular shapes as a border? Someone mentioned paneling tools for GH that has some options. Do you know anything about these components?

About trimming the grid and having closed cells (polylines) as outputs, see my answer here.

As for paneling tools, it is a great plugin with detailed documentation and I believe it has a [divide surface by distance] component. You can download it here.

Thanks, yep the surface by length component worked great! The solve intersection for breps (BBX) also worked to trim the edges and get closed borders.

Great!

Good luck with your project!

Waiting for some photos.
