Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi There,

I am working on a façade system for my Masters project and need help tidying up what I have so far. I have been pulling my hair out all weekend not getting very far. The main points are:-

1. Lofting - I want to loft one set of polygons to another resized set which have been moved a set distance. I then hope to remove these volumes from the extruded hexagons

2. When offsetting, some polygons seems to have done so in a different direction. Is there a way to force this direction on all geometry?

3. Image sampling - I hope to have the image sampler control the inner polygons (to be apertures openings) however how can I get the gradient image I have used to fit to the base surface?

4. Edit the face of the hexagons - I have attached an image of how I would like to manipulate the hexagonal blocks. The aim is to catch the sunlight

5. Does anybody know how to get these hexagons to sit together better rather than trial and error like i have done at the moment.

If anyone has a better way of generating this kind of facade then i'd really appreciate the advice. I have considered panelling but wouldn't know how to get all these factors to work i.e. getting the hexagonal blocks to sit right together, getting the apertures to the change according to the image panel etc.

Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if anyone has any ideas on any of the points above, please let me know!!

Kind regards

Marc

1.?? Loft

Is this something like you intended to make..??

2. Offset

Use proper Plane..

3. Image Sampling

You need remap values to [0.0 to 1.0]..

I used bounding box here..

4. 5. and others..

I don't know what you mean exactly..

Hi Jissi!

This is exactly what I'm after, thank You! Can't believe you went to all that trouble.

I just don't get the lofting process, sometimes it works for me and other times it doesn't. I appreciate there are some rules to this but are there straight forward explanations you know of anywhere?

The other points were to try and get the hexagons to sit together as if physically being stacked, perhaps with a 10mm spacing for mortar. I hope to 3d print this.

I would like to push and pull the faces, of the blocks according to sunlight and its knowing how best to catch it and funnel the light to the other side. The Hex image shows how I have pulled the edge I wondered how i could do this either through more parameters or using attractors?

Many, many thanks again!

Kind regards

Marc
