Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

What needs to be done to allow a corporate entity use Grasshopper in its everyday work?

Is there a specific user license agreement that exists for Grasshopper?

I have been developing Grasshopper components in VB.net that would potentially be useful to the company I work for, but the company wants to be sure that it would be legal to download and use Grasshopper in the office. Does anyone know what steps need to be taken so that the company can use the software in its commercial work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Dorvieto,

yes there is a specific license agreement, if you want to read it again, delete the following line from grasshopper_kernel.xml in the Settings folder:

<item name="License:Accepted" type_name="gh_bool" type_code="1">true</item>

Grasshopper is in beta (actually a Work In Progress to be exact) and is freeware until we decide otherwise. We do not place any restrictions on its usage, commercial or otherwise. Grasshopper releases do not expire and will forever remain valid.

You are allowed to use Rhinoceros for commercial purposes, whether you're using an education or commercial license, you can even use the trial version I think. You are of course not allowed to use Rhino+Grasshopper if you have a cracked installation of Rhino.\

The main restrictions we put on Grasshopper are:

  • No reverse engineering
  • No sublicensing, renting or selling
  • No claiming as your own
  • No changing the base product
  • No removing license/copyright notices

But you should read the full license text (most boring piece of text I ever wrote, I can tell you that much).
