Draw wireframe preview with Meshes

Ctrl+M is the shortcut to toggle mesh edges, or look in the display menu.

is it possible to chose a wireframe colour which is different from the shading colour?

at the moment if the shading mesh is red the wireframe can only be red too? any trick to differenciate the two?

Not at the moment. If you really want a different wireframe colour you'll have to extract the edges and draw them using a different component.
