algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Join us in congratulating David Rutten who won a ACADIA 2012 "Innovative Research Award" on Saturday night in San Francisco. Over 400 enthusiastic ACADIA Awards Dinner attendees cheered as David's Acceptance Speech was projected in the nave of the CCA / California College of the Arts. Congrats David!!!
Quoting the Press Release:
The selection of David Rutten for the award in Innovative Research recognizes his profound impact to architecture and computation as the developer of the Logical Modeling plug-in, Grasshopper, for the Rhinoceros 3D CAD application. Grasshopper has been pivotal to the transformation of parametric design practices over the past five-plus years.
The Grasshopper environment is notable for empowering its users to generate behaviors and associations in digital models without the need to know conventional scripting techniques. Through the creation of this program, as well as Galapagos, he has made parametric design and system optimization easily accessible, and usable, to thousands of academics and practitioners. Mr. Rutten is known among his peers for being remarkably generous with his time. He provides continuous assistance to Grasshopper users through his tireless involvement on the Grasshopper blog and has remained actively supportive of the ACADIA community for many years.
Congratulations David! Thanks for you ideas, work and example of keeping up with everyday challenges!
Congratulations David!! Definitely the deserved price for your great work!
a bit late, but congrats for the award, and thank You again for giving us this door-opening tool (and for free too)!
(liked the vid as well :) )
Congratulations!!!Thank you David, for your free "weapons of mass creation"!!
Thank you david for all time passed on the forum for answer to questions.
yeah david !! winwin ! deserved it !
Congratulations David! You definitely deserve this award.
I've tried to stay current on all of the generative design platforms out there. Two years ago I wrote this guest blog post about it:
One platform I neglected to include in that post was Maya with its scripting language MelScript. There are also two new platforms, Dynamo for Vasari/Revit and Evolute Tools for Rhino that have come into play since this post was written.
In my opinion, Dynamo is the only one that even comes close to the accessibility, ease of use, intuitiveness and power of Grasshopper. GH has a much more robust tool set than Dynamo and it will take them years to catch up, if they can!
All this is to say that everything I've read or heard has always placed Grasshopper as the gold standard for visual programming interfaces by which other visual programming platforms are judged. Thank you for creating such a wonderful design tool!
Congratulations and thanks to David for making the generative design approach more accessible
You really deserved it. Congratulations David.
