Attraction Points that Produce Positive and Negative Data

I am trying to use a control point to manipulate the height and size of some openings of a module. The module is made from a hexagon grid with a center point that has been moved up and down. Triangles are then created from the moved midpoint to the edges of the hexagon (see attached files).

I can make the module open in one direction (i.e. the midpoint of the module can move from z and up based on the distance between the centre of the hexagon and two control point). What I am trying to achieve, however, is for the module to open in one direction, close to be flat, then open again in the other direction, all dependent on the distance to the centre point.

Could someone please help me out!

Cheerers,
Cheers,

At what point should or condition should the cross over occur?
Ideally, the middle between the two control points, so that the points closest to point a will give positive results, and point b negative results.
